Dorrett Smith experienced the horrors of bullying firsthand as a child growing up with a physical disability. Later, as a teacher, she observed similar conduct among students. Realizing that discussions on the topic of bullying did not have the desired effects, she wrote Pink Nail Polish in an effort to try to spare children the pain of her own experience.
