Martha Ackelsberg, PhD, is professor of government at Smith College where sheteaches applied democracy and women's studies. She is the author of Free Womenof Spain: Anarchism and the Struggle for the Emancipation of Women, as well asnumerous articles on women's community activism; gender and public policy; andwomen in Judaism.
