Joseph Conrad
Joseph Conrad, whose real name was Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, was a Polish-British novelist. Although Conrad only learned English in his early twenties, he is considered one of the most important writers of the 19th century to have written their work in English. His work was influenced by his experiences in the European colonies of Belgium and the Netherlands, his time in the British Merchant Navy and his memories of his homeland. Conrad's work is considered to belong to the modern period and in part to 19th-century realism.
