John and his future wife Dorothy were born to families of Polish immigrants who migrated to northeastern Pennsylvania in the late 1800s and early 1900s for a better life. John was born on the kitchen table in his grandmother's house in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, where he grew up and experienced many of the events in his life, including meeting Dorothy.
