E. A. Wyke-Smith
English author Edward Wyke-Smith is best known for penning The Marvellous Land of Snergs, favourite bedtime reading for J.R.R. Tolkien and his children. The Marvellous Land of Snergs is widely recognized as an influence on Tolkien’s own fantasy classic, The Hobbit. Edward Wyke-Smith wrote his first book, Bill of the Bustingforths, at his children’s request, in addition to other titles for both children and adults. He died in 1935.
