D. H. Lawrence
D. H. Lawrence (1885-1930) was an English novelist and poet, the son of a Nottinghamshire coal miner, whose works include Sons and Lovers and Women in Love. M. L. Skinner (1876-1955), Mary Louisa Skinner, was a Western Australian nurse and writer who ran a guest house at Darlington, where Lawrence stayed in 1922. Her manuscript The House of Ellis became, in his rewriting, The Boy in the Bush; she later published Black Swans.
