Catherine Helen Spence
Catherine Helen Spence (1825–1910) was a Scottish-born Australian novelist, journalist, and reformer who emigrated to South Australia in 1839. She worked as a teacher and writer in Adelaide and was an advocate for women’s suffrage and proportional representation. Her novel Mr. Hogarth’s Will (1865) examines women’s economic independence.
