August Strindberg
August Strindberg was a Swedish playwright, novelist and painter who worked as a librarian, telegraph clerk and journalist before The Red Room made him famous at thirty. He was tried for blasphemy, married and divorced three times, and passed through a psychotic crisis in Paris he recorded in Inferno. Miss Julie and A Dream Play changed European theatre; he also painted seascapes now hanging in major museums.
