  ماهية الشِّعر؛ سؤال مستمر وفكرة أساسية ينشغل بها ديوان «فوات الأوان» للشاعر محمد أبو زيد، انطلاقًا من الشكل والمضمون، مرورًا بعلاقة الشِّعر بالعالم الذي يوشك أن ينهار، وانتهاءً بالشاعر نفسه في مواجهة قصيدته، حيث يتبادلان سؤال: «ماذا بعد؟». ربما لا يفكر محمد أبو زيد في إصلاح "الكون الشِّعري"، إنما يفكر في "عالمه" الخاص، فيُحوِّل القصيدة لسؤال فني ملغوم يتشكل في قصيدته، بمحاذاة تجربته الإنسانية وأسئلته الشخصية، التي مرَّت بمراحل حتى تجاوزَت مرحلة التحديق في العالم باعتباره "مأساة"، وصولًا لحالة من الطفو الخفيف، انعكست على اللغة التي يوظفها والرؤية التي يطرحها، في حين يبقى سؤاله الأهم مستمرًّا: ما هو الشعر؟
