Sinopsis

Wastewater Recycling addresses the critical intersection of water scarcity and food security, exploring how treated wastewater can be a sustainable solution for agriculture. The book delves into the science behind transforming wastewater into recycled water suitable for irrigation, highlighting treatment technologies that remove pathogens and pollutants. It reveals that responsible wastewater reuse can significantly boost food production, offering a way to feed a growing population while conserving precious freshwater resources. The book examines the environmental implications of this practice, looking at potential impacts on soil health, crop quality, and public health. It emphasizes that while wastewater recycling offers many benefits, careful management and rigorous scientific backing are essential. Starting with the basics of wastewater treatment, the book progresses through treatment technologies, environmental impacts, and case studies, culminating in a discussion of economic, social, and policy considerations. Ultimately, the book makes a case for wastewater as a valuable resource, but only if implemented responsibly. It offers a comprehensive overview of the entire process, from wastewater generation to agricultural use, making it invaluable for students, researchers, policymakers, and anyone interested in sustainable solutions.

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, get ready to run for your life . . .
In the face of a massive earthquake and tsunami in the Pacific Northwest, a respected geologist must make two gut-wrenching decisions. One could cost him his reputation, the other, his life.
Is the Northwest overdue for a huge quake and tsunami, or will the region remain safe for hundreds of years yet to come? No one knows… or does someone?
Dr. Rob Elwood, a geologist whose specialty is earthquakes and tsunamis, is having nightmares of "the big one" that are way too real to disregard. His friend, a counselor and retired reverend, does not think Rob is going nuts. To the contrary, he believes the dreams are premonitions to be taken seriously. No one else does, however, even after a press conference.
Some live to regret it, most don't.
Rob's drama becomes intertwined with others--a retired fighter pilot trying to make amends to a woman he jilted decades ago and a quixotic retiree searching for legendary buried treasure in the rugged coastal mountains of Oregon.
All are about to live Rob's nightmare.
"Riveting, scary, and entirely believable . . . a compelling, page-turning thriller with the ring of truth." Jerry Thompson, author of Cascadia's Fault

By the time the Pleistocene Epoch ended around 12,000 years ago, Homo sapiens had become one of the most significant species on the planet. It was also near the end of that period of time that modern humans began to gradually populate what would become Europe, Asia, and the Americas, eventually becoming the inheritors of the Paleolithic era and the only human species to make it into the Neolithic era. The process was long and difficult, and the survival of the species only happened through a combination of human tenacity and a fair amount of luck. As much as humans evolved during the Pleistocene, the topography, geography, and environment changed even more.
The cold Pleistocene temperatures lowered water levels across the planet, exposing land that was not there before or after the period. At the same time, significant regions of the planet were very different during the Pleistocene, including Southeast Asia, particularly the modern islands of Bali, Borneo, Sumatra, and the Malay Peninsula, roughly equivalent to parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand. This region, which modern scholars refer to as Sunda or Sundaland, was unique because all of it was connected by land, meaning today’s islands were once part of a contiguous subcontinent, and in terms of the people, flora, and fauna, it was very different than it is today. If a modern traveler could somehow transport back to the Pleistocene, Sundaland would look nothing like modern Southeast Asia and would resemble as much of a lost world as something out of a science fiction novel.
Although much is still unknown about Sundaland, researchers have uncovered plenty of evidence bringing this lost world to life. As anthropologists and archaeologists developed new models and discovered ancient material culture, they learned that Sundaland played a significant role in the development of Neolithic Southeast Asia in many ways.
