The Devoted Friend by Oscar Wilde was first published in 1888 in the anthology The Happy Prince and Other Tales.
Hans was a little man who owned a beautiful garden, where he grew flowers of all kinds and colours which were sold in the market to make some money. He enjoyed the company of another man called Hugh, a
miller who used to visit Hans very often during the summer time and with whom he shared thoughts about friendship and loyalty.
However, when winter came, Hans found himself in a very difficult situation, as his flowers wouldn't flourish anymore until the following spring, meaning that he was impoverished, living on a simple diet of a
    few pears or hard nuts.
Meanwhile, the miller lived comfortably in his own house, and avoided visiting his friend or helping him in any way not to make him jealous and spoil, if not break, their friendship.
After winter, when Hans' flowers are blooming, Hugh visits Hans with a basket to get flowers. Upon hearing Hans' story, Hugh promises to give Hans his wheelbarrow, which is falling apart and not even usable. In return for this 'gift,' Hugh guilts Hans into working for him day in and day out, selling his flour, mending his roof, and even going to get the doctor for Hugh's sick son.
On the way back from this last errand, Hans gets lost and dies. Hugh gives himself a prominent place at Hans' funeral, promising never to give anything away again, since the wheelbarrow (which he never gave to Hans) was so much trouble.

My story is about a man in his seventies, a pseudo scientist who has his brain removed from his skull and placed inside a lab aquarium - the 'Manaquarium' so that they can study his consciousness. (FYI - They removed Einstein's brain but only checked out his basic anatomy and found that he had way more glial cells than the rest of us - what a waste.)  In this case, they get a bit further down the road. Our hero, Henry has made it his life's goal to learn more about the connections of the human soul to the rest of the vastness of space/time. Freed from the constraints of all of his biological functions, his mind is able to go where no man has gone before.
So - in the Think Tank and connected to the Super Lepton Collider, the upgraded Webb and Hubble Telescopes and the Very Large Array, Hank is able to discern something that appears to be the 2nd Big Bang! If you thought the first Big Bang was all there is, you have a huge shock in store for yourself. As it turns out, they're going on all over the place and sometimes, they even collide into one another and cause havoc over large sections of the universe.
This is also a love story that connects the reader to the meaning and purpose of Cosmic Consciousness but in a completely new way - it's Science.
All of this plays out against the background of our planet on fire and all life on Earth on the verge of extinction - even the oceans catch fire - (taken from actual recent headlines.) But cruising closer to the 2nd Big Bang with the aid of Jeff Bezos and his new Space company - everything works out in the end and all of human life becomes justified at last - but in a slightly different and higher context than the way we justify ourselves at the present..
I don't want to give away the ending. I'm hopeful that I've done Arthur C. Clarke and Kurt Vonnegut proud.

First published in 1975, The Cage was a graphic novel before there was a name for the medium. Cryptic and disturbing, it spurns narrative for atmosphere, guiding us through a labyrinthine series of crumbling facades, disarrayed rooms and desolate landscapes, as time stutters backward and forward. Within the cage's barbed-wire confines, we observe humanity only through its traces: a filmic sequence of discarded objects –headphones, inky stains, dishevelled bedsheets –scored by a deafening cacophony of breaths, cries and unsettling silence.

This new edition, which includes an introduction by comics master Seth, brings Martin Vaughn-James's nightmarish vision to a new generation of readers.

'I don't use the word "masterpiece" lightly. I think The Cage is a masterpiece of comic art.'– Seth

'Vaughn-James remains a significant figure in comics history because his work was singular, literate, experimental, and often unsurpassably good.' – The Walrus

'It is a masterpiece, demonstrating a level of skill and insight very few have even aspired to in the nearly 40 years since its initial publication … this work is strongly recommended for every true fan of the graphic arts.' – Publishers Weekly (starred review)

This strip offers a fresh outlook and appeals to everyone . . . LIO is a comic strip that's edgy, funny, visually stunning, and truly different." --Daily CartoonistWith a feature film in the works from producer David Kirschner (Child's Play, An American Tail), LIO deftly melds the macabre with its brand of dark humor.Having been distinguished by Variety as "a fast riser," Mark Tatulli's morbidly mirthful pantomime comic strip, LIO, is humorously astute and just slightly askew in its perception of the world.Centered around an odd, ghostly-pale child named LIO, and his creepy coterie of friends, including a giant squid named Ishmael and a scythe-carrying grim reaper, LIO; is influenced by cartooning greats Gahan Wilson, Charles Addams, and 19th-century satirist A. J. Volck.
