Haunted by memories of a Tanzanian childhood abruptly ended when her parents were deported, Jane Bryce returns in search of the past only to be ambushed by the present. As she retraces her own and her parents' footsteps she is surprised by unexpected connections, reaching back into the colonial past, and further, to a time of myth and legend. The key to understanding what holds these together comes to her in the form of 'zamani'—the Swahili sea of time where spirits inhabit places and landscape, memory animates the everyday and voices from the past speak to the present. Collectively these voices paint a picture of social and political change in Tanzania over the last 50 years, and invite the author to take her place in it.

Mike and his wife, Barbara, moved to Lincoln, Illinois, in 1972. The town of 17,000 was charming, friendly, and safe. As employees of Lincoln College, a small, private junior college, they quickly grew to enjoy the subtle pleasures of small-town living. Then the campus was hit with a series of burglaries and a student disappeared. Finally, the murders began. This is Mike Hartnett’s personal story, memories that have taken him more than forty years to write. This is not a true crime exposé or a who-dunnit mystery. This is simply a story about one man on the periphery of a series of events that devastate a community for a time. It is a story about the guilt that lingers and the questions that remain.
    About the Author:
Mike Hartnett was a retired high school English/Speech teacher and business journalist (magazine columnist and editor and newsletter publisher), winning awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors. He led a memoir-writing group for the Douglas County Senior Citizen Center and was a co-leader of a men’s writing group at the Douglas County Jail.
Mike is the co-author of a play, Worthy of the Name, which was presented at Chicago’s Cultural Affairs Center, and a collaborator of a readers’ theater production, Prose & Cons, Voices From Behind Bars.

This audiobook is an independent journalistic and historical work based entirely on publicly available sources. It is not authorized, endorsed, or affiliated with Charlie Kirk, his family, or his official representatives. All facts presented are derived from credible, documented public records, interviews, and media reports. Any opinions expressed are solely those of the author.
Charlie Kirk: A Life in Controversy traces the meteoric rise and polarizing legacy of Charlie Kirk—from his suburban Illinois roots to his transformation into one of the most combative voices in American conservatism. This gripping biography follows Kirk as he builds Turning Point USA from a basement startup into a national powerhouse, forges alliances with political elites, and becomes a leading figure in the culture wars through The Charlie Kirk Show. Alongside his triumphs come intense controversies: accusations of misinformation, political radicalization, and relentless partisanship. Through public records, interviews, and media accounts, this book reveals the tactics, ambition, and contradictions of a man who reshaped youth conservatism and divided a nation. Both his supporters and his critics will find a vivid portrait of a figure who thrived in conflict—and left an indelible mark on American politics.

A powerful, provocative, and genre-bending literary memoir that grapples with victimhood, recovery, and resilience

In the before, Jesse James Rose is happy. She has a beautiful boyfriend with melty glacier eyes, she’s on a euphoric journey of gender exploration, and New York City is perfect. In the after, she’s single, making dinner for her grandfather, and wondering if he’s going to forget her name today. Except, in the before, her first-grade music teacher lead her into a dark room to show her something he shouldn’t have. And in the after, she’s finding healing and comfort in coming into her own, even as her grandfather declines.

In the before, she was fine, more or less. But in the after, she has to reckon with whatever the hell restorative justice really, truly means.

Following the aftermath of an assault, and the heartache of caring for a grandfather with Alzheimer’s, sorry i keep crying during sex tells a captivating story of identity, recovery, grief, survivorship, and transness. Through lists, theatrical scripts, flashbacks, and Grindr DMs, Jesse James Rose’s genre-defying memoir is raw and hysterically funny, and takes readers on the wild ride of overcoming the struggles of a trans twentysomething.

“A visceral, raw portrayal of trans and queer life, sorry i keep crying during sex will have you holding on for dear life. This book doesn't pull a single punch. Jesse Rose writes with exactly the type of tender, aggressive, in-your-face narrative gumption we need right now. Don't call it a debut: bitch, it's an arrival.”—Jacob Tobia, author of Before They Were Men and Sissy

Where Madness Lies - The Double...

Vivien Leigh was one of the greatest film and theatrical stars of the 1930s, '40s, and '50s. Her Oscar-winning performances in Gone With the Wind and A Streetcar Named Desire have cemented her status as an icon of Hollywood.

From 1940 to 1960, Leigh was married to Sir Laurence Olivier, and together they were considered the royal couple of British theater. Indeed, their romance and acting partnerships captured the imagination of the public around the world.

Behind the scenes, however, Leigh's personal life was marred by manic depression. Largely misunderstood and subjected to barbaric mistreatment at the hands of her doctors, she would also suffer the heartbreak of Olivier's infidelity. Contributing to her image as a tragic heroine, she would die at the age of fifty-three.

Unlike previous biographies, Where Madness Lies begins in 1953 when Leigh suffered a nervous breakdown and was institutionalized. The tragic story unfolds as she tries to rebuild her life, salvage her career, and save her marriage.

Featuring a wealth of unpublished material—including private correspondence—Lyndsy Spence reveals how Leigh tragically fell victim to the draconian medical practices of the era.
