Sinopse

"Toxic Ego Maze" challenges conventional wisdom about self-confidence by exploring the fine line between healthy self-esteem and destructive narcissistic tendencies. This groundbreaking work combines cutting-edge neuroscience with practical psychology to examine how narcissistic behaviors develop, manifest, and can be effectively managed in everyday life.

The book's unique approach lies in its presentation of narcissism not as a fixed trait, but as a spectrum of behaviors that can be modified through conscious effort and understanding. Through three comprehensive sections, the book progresses from establishing scientific foundations in personality development and attachment theory to analyzing how modern factors like social media and changing parenting styles influence narcissistic traits. The final section delivers practical, evidence-based strategies for developing balanced self-awareness and emotional regulation.

What sets this work apart is its integration of multiple disciplines, including neurobiology, social psychology, and evolutionary psychology, to provide a complete picture of narcissistic behavior patterns. The book stands out by offering actionable solutions while maintaining scholarly rigor. It includes structured self-reflection exercises and specific communication protocols, making complex psychological concepts accessible to general readers while remaining valuable for professionals.

Rather than promoting unlimited self-esteem, it advocates for a balanced approach to self-worth based on realistic self-assessment and genuine achievement, providing readers with practical tools for personal growth and improved relationships.

How hedge funds make money by taking it from the rest of us—and how you can join them!

Top hedge fund managers make more than Oprah, Rupert Murdoch, and A-Rod combined—but they aren't running news and entertainment empires or playing baseball for the New York Yankees. Aren't you curious about how these hedge fund dudes make so much doing who knows what? You may even wonder if you can get there, too. After all, this is America!

This book gives you the answers in a twelve-step guide to accumulating vast riches the way hedge fund managers do—by playing trillion-dollar poker with a marked deck. Through each easy step, you'll learn the sleight of hand and disregard for basic morality you'll need to move from making tens of dollars an hour to millions an hour! Along the way, you'll also question whether these hedge fund moguls make markets work better—as they and their apologists insist—or cause instability, siphon off capital, and destroy value without adding so much as a single widget to the economy.

Of all the geographical classifications of the indigenous cultures of America that inhabited the continent, only the region called Mesoamerica had, from very early in its history, the use of letters to transmit messages. It is known that the Inca cultures and perhaps some of those that preceded them used a system to memorize stories, but such systems never used signs with values, whether they were logographic or phonetic. This uniqueness places the Mesoamerican area on a par with the cultures of the old continent and Asia, concerning the transmission of the historical memory of its peoples.
All writing is an information storage system. Indeed, long before writing was invented, human memory existed, and often specific groups of people were trained to ensure the community safeguarding their past. However, there is a significant difference between the transmission of information in written form, that is, utilizing sculpted or painted drawings or signs, and that is, therefore, more efficient and easier to save than that which depends only on the memory and oral transmission.

By the time Christopher Columbus started setting east from the New World, he had explored San Salvador in the Bahamas (which he thought was Japan), Cuba (which he thought was China), and Hispaniola, the source of gold. As the common story goes, Columbus, en route back to Spain from his first journey, called in at Lisbon as a courtesy to brief the Portuguese King John II of his discovery of the New World. King John subsequently protested that according to the 1479 Treaty of Alcáçovas, which divided the Atlantic Ocean between Spanish and Portuguese spheres of influence, the newly discovered lands rightly belonged to Portugal. To make clear the point, a Portuguese fleet was authorized and dispatched west from the Tagus to lay claim to the “Indies,” which prompted a flurry of diplomatic activity in the court of Ferdinand and Isabella. At the time, Spain lacked the naval power to prevent Portugal from acting on this threat, and the result was the hugely influential 1494 Treaty of Tordesillas.
The Treaty of Tordesillas was one of the most important documents of its kind of the age, for it established the essential parameters of the two competing empires, the first of the major European imperial entities. The Treaty of Tordesillas drew an imaginary line from pole to pole, running 100 leagues west of the westernmost islands of the Azores. According to the terms of a supporting papal bull, all the lands to the west of that belonged to Spain, and all of those to the east belonged to Portugal. What this meant in practical terms was that Portugal was given Africa and the Indian Ocean while Spain was granted all the lands to the west, including the Americas and the Caribbean, all collectively known as the “Indies,” or the New World. Perhaps inevitably, a regional rivalry had developed as the Portuguese began to establish a colony in Brazil and push its boundaries southwards.

“An exceptional study. The author of the book has had the audacity to approach Russian chaos... armed with her desire to prove that the country is by no means a madhouse but simply an immense space, difficult to access for the outsider who is unfamiliar with Russian traditions, history and mentality.” Lyubova Klobukova, Izvestia.

“Alla Sergueeva’s book is highly topical. The author loves Russia, cares about its people, is proud of its history, culture and science.” Vladimir Nogovsky, Russian Thought.

Should a foreigner accept an invitation to the Russian baths? How many glasses of vodka should you drink in one go before trying to refuse? Why do Russians endure life at great sacrifice? What is “Russian happiness” made of? And above all, what’s new in 21st-century Russia?
Over the past fifteen years, the “mysterious Slavic soul” has undergone unprecedented metamorphosis. It was time to draw up an exhaustive inventory of the new way of life and psychology of the Russians.
