Sinopsis

"School Lunch Adventures" offers a groundbreaking exploration of how the seemingly simple thirty-minute lunch period shapes children's social development and decision-making abilities in elementary schools. Drawing from extensive research across 50 schools over five years, this comprehensive study unveils the complex social ecosystem that emerges in school cafeterias, where children develop crucial life skills through food trading, seating dynamics, and peer interactions. The book skillfully weaves together three main threads: the informal economy of lunch trading, the evolution of social hierarchies through seating choices, and the intricate relationship between food preferences and peer relationships. Through careful observation and data collection, the research reveals how these brief daily interactions serve as a vital laboratory for developing negotiation skills and social awareness. The historical context, beginning with the 1946 National School Lunch Act, provides essential background for understanding how institutional policies influence these dynamics. Moving from methodology to practical applications, the text progresses through detailed analyses of table group dynamics and food negotiations, ultimately offering valuable insights for educators and parents. What sets this work apart is its unique intersection of child psychology, nutrition science, and educational theory, presented in accessible language while maintaining academic rigor. The research's practical implications, including recommendations for cafeteria layout and supervision strategies, make it an invaluable resource for education professionals and parents alike who seek to understand and support children's social development during these crucial daily interactions.

Dr. Royal R. Rife (May 16, 1888-August 5, 1971) was a prolific American inventor and early promoter of high-magnification time-lapse cinemicrography. In the 1930s, he claimed that by using his specially designed optical microscope, he could observe microbes that were too small to view with the current technology. Rife also invented a "beam ray" device that could potentially weaken or destroy cancer cells.

Rife still has a strong following among the wellness and holistic health communities, who believe that his anticancer technologies have been suppressed and should be given a thorough review. Royal Raymond Rife's devices are now being manufactured by independent electronics companies.

The Gwent Levels line the north shore of the Severn Estuary in South Wales: Chepstow at their head; their more famous cousin, the Somerset Levels, across the water; the Welsh capital, Cardiff at their feet. You could waste an hour crossing the Levels by motorway. Or brush aside the journey by train. But writer Marsha O'Mahony has chosen the slow route of foreshore, footpath, and country lane. Over the course of two years, she meandered from village to village collecting conversations and anecdotes as she went. The result is a remarkable oral and social history of this unique landscape and the people who live there.

Today's Russia, also known as the Russian Federation, is often viewed as less powerful than the Soviet Union of the past. When stacked against other major nations in the present, however, the new Russia is a formidable if flawed player.

Russia: What Everyone Needs to Know provides fundamental information about the origins, evolution, and current affairs of the Russian state and society. The story begins with Russia's geographic endowment, proceeds through its experiences as a kingdom and empire, and continues through the USSR's three-quarters of a century, and finally the shocking breakup of that regime a generation ago. Chapters on the failed attempt to reform Communism under Mikhail Gorbachev, the halting steps toward democratization under Boris Yeltsin, and the entrenchment of central controls under Vladimir Putin bring the listener into the contemporary scene and to headline-grabbing events such as Russia's annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine and its military intervention in Syria. Drawing on trends within Russia and on ratings and rankings compiled by international organizations, Colton discusses the challenges facing the country—ranging from economic recession to demographic stress, political stagnation, and overextension in foreign policy—and to the realistic options for coping with them.
