Sinopse

Personal Space Rules delves into the fascinating world of human spatial behavior, exploring how different cultures establish and navigate personal boundaries during social interactions. Through a comprehensive analysis of proxemics, haptic communication, and cultural spatial norms across 42 cultures, the book reveals how our invisible boundaries are shaped by both biological instincts and cultural conditioning. This research-backed exploration demonstrates that personal space rules aren't arbitrary but rather systematic cultural constructions reflecting deeper social values.

The book uniquely combines traditional anthropological observations with modern scientific tools, presenting a three-part journey through the subject matter. It begins by examining the biological and psychological foundations of personal space, including the role of the amygdala in processing spatial threats. The narrative then expands into cultural variations, contrasting high-contact societies in Latin America with low-contact cultures in Northern Europe, before culminating in practical applications for urban design, workplace architecture, and diplomatic relations.

Drawing from five decades of research, including Edward T. Hall's groundbreaking work on proxemics, this interdisciplinary study bridges psychology, anthropology, and architecture. The book stands out for its accessible presentation of complex concepts through clear examples and case studies, making it valuable for both academic researchers and professionals working in cross-cultural environments. Its examination of contemporary challenges, such as maintaining personal space during health crises and adapting to virtual communication, makes it particularly relevant in today's interconnected world.

What’s considered the worst crime and who’s the most hated person in America? Most would say child sexual abuse and the pedophile. The principle’s everywhere. How do we normally deal with it? To put it poetically: to go over Thor’s face in the United States and overlook God, the truth of the matter, repeat the vampire. Tonight on Television, a book of poetry, goes to the heart of the matter, the creation of the pedophile and proposes stopping the process where it starts, which is in the caring for of infants and toddlers. It employs the ideal of oneness, non-duality, instead of the formula of crime and punishment, in dealing with that, how it addresses the whole issue, paying particular attention to the hatred of the pedophile and the damage that does to society, which is not only the proliferation of child sex abuse, which, it must be said, the poem aims to stop. I’m the fellow, aren’t I? I’ve spent many years studying the issue, first in university, where, after getting a BA in English and minor in History (University of Houston, 1988), I spent three and a half years learning Classical Greek, translating Greek poetry into English verse, not only to learn the writing of poetry, but to access knowledge on ancient Greek sexuality in particular and on the formation of the human ego and sexual orientation in general, doing a self-study on the latter two by reading extensively in a variety of pertinent subjects. Then I did an unorthodox fieldwork for several years after Ieaving college in 1993, becoming a vagabond first in the United States and then the world, spending 10 years living in over 27 countries on 4 continents, during which time I paid particular attention to what when down in the families I lived with, as, being an adventure traveler, I usually lived and worked with the local population. You don't believe an autodidact can be an expert? Hey, I’m not just the One, whom everybody is; I’m the one to show you the world.

A comprehensive guide for understanding how narcissism on social media impacts our mental health, how to protect ourselves and our children from those affects as well as from narcissists, and how to use social media more mindfully.

The Facebook Narcissist is the first book dedicated to exploring the relationship between narcissism and social media. Lena Derhally, a licensed psychotherapist certified in Imago therapy, delves into how social media enhances individual and cultural narcissism and how it may create or exacerbate toxic narcissistic
tendencies in people who use it. Using her clinical expertise, along with scientific research and interviews with other experts in the field, she thoroughly examines:
how narcissism on social media contributes to false narratives and ruptures relationships; how to identify a narcissist on social media (including how to spot the more subtle sub-types of narcissist, such as the covert, communal, and collective narcissist); how narcissism relates to the “influencer” and celebrity
culture; narcissism and cyberbullying, cyberstalking, trolling, and victim blaming on social media; narcissism related to racism and politics on social media; the ways social media can create a problem of narcissism in children as they grow up, the implications of "sharenting"; and more. Readers will discover case studies and
real examples of narcissists and how they present on social media.

Derhally’s expertise in cultivating healthy, fulfilling, and connected relationships helps guide readers to take a deeper look at their behaviors on social media and of those around them. At the end of each chapter, she gives practical tips and takeaways for navigating narcissism online. Since abandoning our devices is
impractical and not likely, this book will help readers understand how to use social media in a balanced way that inspires fulfillment and connection instead of the entitlement, attention-seeking, and lack of empathy that is at the heart of narcissism. Derhally also instructs readers on how they may use social media for
good, and as a tool for positive social change. Social media is here to stay, but with education and awareness on how it makes us and the world more narcissistic, we can change the narrative and focus on the ways in which social media can be positive, and even improve the world for the better.
