Sinopse

We have seen James Bond in fiction and movies, fighting enemies of state or mankind, risking his life. The author of Bond has certainly taken the character from real life. While much of the spies remain hidden and unknown from the world, there are some who somehow became known to the world.
In this book some of the deadliest female spies are taken, who are not less in any way than James Bond in reality.  From Nur Inayat Khan to Virginia Hall to Anna Chapman, let us meet some of the fiercest spies and their unknown activities.
Before seeing Castro, Marita realized that she could not kill his love. The first question Castro asked Marita was, "Are you still busy with my opponents in Miami?" Marita's answer was, yes. Castro's second question was, are you working for the CIA? Marita's answer was, I just work on my own. Castro's next question was, are you back to kill me? Marita's answer was, yes. But I came to see you. Castro happily replied, "Good, very good." Meanwhile, the daring Castro has handed over his loaded .45 pistol to Marita. Marita checked the pistol chamber and pointed the pistol at Castro. Castro glanced at Marita and said,
You can't kill me, nobody can kill me.

In August, 1947, Mary Brock boarded a train in Toronto. She was headed for the wilds of Northwestern Ontario and a teaching job at an Indian Residential School. Her family was horrified. At the end of her first day of teaching, Mary was horrified too. This was not the exciting adventure she had imagined. But Mary wasn't one to give up, and buoyed by her ideals and her pragmatism, she kept showing up.She lasted the academic year but when she boarded the train for home, she knew she had failed in every way that mattered. The ideals she had come with had shattered on her classroom floor, and a big piece of her heart, lay buried behind a small log cabin in the woods.Sixty years later, two unexpected gifts forced Mary to take a second look back and a more hopeful look forward. Maybe her ideals weren't so naive after all.

Learn how to argue from the masters. This book is a complete course on the art of argument, taught by the greatest practitioners of it: Churchill, Lincoln, and hundreds of others from the golden age of debate in England and America.

The book's concise chapters provide lessons in all aspects of give and take—the syllogism and the slippery slope, the argumentum ad hominem and reductio ad absurdum, the fallacy and the insult. Ward Farnsworth shows how the full range of such techniques can be used or repelled, and brings them to life with examples that are fascinating and instructive.

The result is a must-listen reference that will leave you better able to win arguments and to defend yourself under fire. It's also an entertaining reminder that argument can be a source of beauty and delight. As Farnsworth says of the examples, they show talented advocates "crossing analytical swords and exchanging abuse when those things were done with more talent and dignity than is common today. They made argument a spectator sport of lasting value and interest."

International relations is a complex and ever-evolving field that shapes the global political landscape. The relationships between countries, organizations, and individuals influence everything from trade and diplomacy to security and human rights. Understanding the history, theories, and modern-day dynamics of international relations is essential for anyone seeking to grasp the intricacies of global affairs. The study of international relations has evolved from a niche academic discipline into a vital framework for analyzing global conflicts, cooperation, and power struggles.

The modern world has been profoundly shaped by the forces of globalization, which have made international relations more interconnected than ever before. Advances in communication, transportation, and technology have blurred the lines between domestic and international issues. Countries can no longer afford to operate in isolation; they must cooperate on matters of shared concern, such as climate change, terrorism, economic crises, and public health. However, the globalized world also comes with challenges. Increasingly, nations must navigate a complex web of relationships and competing interests, where power dynamics and the quest for dominance can create conflict.

Globalization has had a profound impact on international relations, but it has also revealed the limits of traditional diplomacy. In the past, diplomacy was primarily conducted between states, often in secret negotiations behind closed doors. Today, international diplomacy involves a wider range of actors, from multinational corporations and non-governmental organizations to grassroots movements and individual leaders. This shift has led to both opportunities and challenges for international cooperation, as diverse interests often clash in the pursuit of a global agenda.

    Sedition - How America's...

Since protestors ripped through the Capitol Building in 2021, the threat of constitutional crisis has loomed over our nation. The foundational tenets of American democracy seem to be endangered, and many citizens believe this danger is unprecedented in our history. But Americans have weathered many constitutional crises, often accompanied by the same violence and chaos experienced on January 6. However, these crises occurred on the state level. In Sedition, Marcus Alexander Gadson uncovers these episodes of civil unrest and examines how state governments handled them.

Sedition takes listeners through six instances of constitutional crisis: The Buckshot War, Dorr's Rebellion, Bleeding Kansas, the Brooks-Baxter War, a successful terrorist campaign to overthrow South Carolina's government during Reconstruction, and the Wilmington Insurrection of 1898. He chronicles these turbulent periods of violent anti-government conflict on the state level, explaining what it was like to experience coup d'états, rival governments fighting in the streets, and disputed elections that gave way to violence. As he addresses constitutional breakdown, Gadson urges Americans to pay increased attention to the risk of constitutional instability in their home states. His sweeping historical analysis provides new insights on the fight to protect democracy today.
