Bold, queer and utterly thrilling, Hell's Heart is a speculative retelling of Herman Melville's classic, Moby Dick. From bestselling author of Boyfriend Material, Alexis Hall. They are monsters. They are legends. And they are our prey.Earth is dead. Which leaves us stuck living in atmospheric domes on planets that will kill us if we blink wrong, or run out of fuel. And by ‘fuel’ I mean cerebrospinal fluid, harvested at great risk from gargantuan space monsters.I joined the hunt hoping to get paid and maybe laid, but mostly paid. And I followed a charismatic captain eager to face these beasts and to howl her defiance across the skies of Jupiter. On her crew, I met Q, a woman from the wreck of old Earth, who might have kept me grounded. Or then again, perhaps not.We were ordered to hunt the greatest leviathan of all, and we fought beasts and ships and one another. Then we finally met our nemesis, there above the red heart of that world. Spoiler: it didn’t end well.‘Moby Dick meets Treasure Planet by way of Fleabag – an unbelievable accomplishment from a tremendous author’- Sarah Gailey, author of Spread Me and Just Like Home‘Hall’s best, weirdest, and most snarkily delightful book yet . . . intricate perfection’- Ruthanna Emrys, author of A Half-Built Garden‘Wow’- John Scalzi, author of Starter Villain

The Last Empire is a collection of provocative, witty, and eloquent essays by Gore Vidal about all things USA. In more than two dozen essays, Vidal brings his keen intellect, experience, and razor-edged wit to bear on an astonishing range of subjects, offering incisive observations about terrorism, civil liberties, the CIA, Al Gore, and the Clintons—interwoven with a rich tapestry of personal anecdote, critical insight, and historical detail. Erudite, forever curious, argumentative, irascible, and often very funny, Gore writes that the United States is, "a unique society in which we have free enterprise for the poor and socialism for the rich." The Last Empire is a sweeping coda to the still-existing conflicted vision of the American dream—leaving no need to imagine what trenchant barbs Vidal would have uttered concerning the state and level of discourse of American society right now.

When the Battle of Towton took place on Palm Sunday in 1461 near a small village in Yorkshire, it was the largest and bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil. Towton was one of the battles of the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars ravaging England from 1455-1487. These marked the longest period England has been in unrest, surpassing the 12th century civil war between King Stephen and Empress Matilda (Maud), which lasted 15 years.
Today, roses are a sign of love and luxury, but for over 30 years, they provided the symbols for two houses at war for control of the English throne. Thousands of people died and many more were injured fighting beneath the white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster, and the noble families ruling England tore each other apart in a struggle that was as bitter as it was bloody. Though what followed was a period of strong rule under the Tudors monarchs, it ultimately came at a terrible cost, and even then, it was through Elizabeth of York that the Tudor line received its legitimacy. After all, while Henry VII won his throne in battle, Elizabeth of York was the daughter of King Edward IV of England, a Yorkist monarch.
Despite their limited social and economic impact, the political and personal dramas of the Wars of the Roses have ensured that they are well remembered and still part of the popular imagination.
