"The undisputed king of the comic crime novel."-Providence Journal
Nobody does Florida weirdness quite like Tim Dorsey! Case in point: When Elves Attack, the New York Times bestselling author's twisted Christmas present to his legion of adoring fans who can't get enough of thrill-killer and Sunshine State historian Serge A. Storms, the most endearing psychopath since Dexter. Dorsey offers the perfect antidote for all those sappy feel-good holiday stories with this zany blockbuster extravaganza in which his wonderfully deranged serial killer Floridaphile delivers his special brand of Christmas cheer. More outrageous than Santa Claus in a Speedo, When Elves Attack serves up a Yuletide feast of the "pure gonzo humor" the New York Times Book Review enthusiastically attributes to this fearlessly funny writer. Think Bad Santa and National Lampoon's Family Vacation, blend in Dorsey's trademark appetite for destruction, and you've got hilarious crime fiction black comedy that anyone would be thrilled to discover stuffed in their Christmas stocking.

Do less—enjoy more. Discover the joys of mediocrity with this lighthearted, life-changing call to inaction.

Lower the bar. Turn it down a notch. Get off the Stairmaster. Back away slowly from the to-do list. The Underachiever’s Manifesto is the playfully persuasive guide to living life to the least and loving it.

With sharp humor and genuine wisdom, this welcome little book extols the fabulous benefits of underachievement in our overextended society. A witty introduction makes the case for the right amount of effort—a lot less than we’ve been led to believe. Ten principles of underachievement establish the basics (#8: The tallest blade of grass is the surest to be cut), and practical applications show how mediocrity is the key to happiness at work and in relationships, dieting, exercise, investment, and more. Enlisting examples from philosophy, economics, science, and good common sense, The Underachiever’s Manifesto is a lighthearted, life-changing rallying call for those who dare to do less and enjoy more.

This “challenging and absorbing” novel by the author of The Cone Gatherers explores evil done in the name of goodness with “a powerful and mordant irony” (The Scotsman, UK).   Set amidst the urban decay of Lanarkshire, Robin Jenkins’s Just Duffy reads like a modern-day Confession of a Justified Sinner. A teenager named Duffy, convinced of his own moral rectitude and appalled at the depravity around him, declares war on society. Ridiculous, yet horrifying at the same time, his campaign builds to a terrifying conclusion. Beset with ambiguity, Duffy is a ferocious indictment of Calvinistic moral certainty, of a struggle for good which results in only evil and destruction.   Exploring Robin Jenkins’s signature themes in stark simplicity, Just Duffy is one of the acclaimed author’s most significant and powerful novels. Its inexorable drive and power bear witness to a modern Greek tragedy played out on a Scottish stage. This edition of Just Duffy includes a new introduction by Margery Palmer McCulloch.“Stark and hypnotically well written.”—The Irish Independent, UK

“A Middle Eastern heart-of-darkness tale that flows like a dream . . . Crackling with razor-sharp humor” (The New York Times).   At the dawn of the twentieth century, a young Lebanese explorer leaves the Levant for the wilds of Africa, encountering an eccentric English colonel in Sudan and enlisting in his service. In this lush chronicle of far-flung adventure, the military recruit crosses paths with a compatriot who has dismantled a sumptuous palace in Tripoli and is transporting it across the continent on a camel caravan. The protagonist soon takes charge of this hoard of architectural fragments, ferrying the dismantled landmark through Sudan, Egypt, and the Arabian Peninsula, attempting to return to his native Beirut with this moveable real estate. Along the way, he will encounter skeptic sheikhs, suspicious tribal leaders, bountiful feasts, pilgrims bound for Mecca, and T. E. Lawrence in a tent—in this “utterly charming” novel that was a recipient of the Académie Française’s François Mauriac Prize (Library Journal).   “Renders the complex social landscape of the Middle East and North Africa with subtlety and finesse . . . Yet one doesn’t need to care about the region’s history, or its present-day contexts, to enjoy Moving the Palace.” —The Wall Street Journal

George Entmen just turned forty, and he can't complain. As the James Lydecker Chair of Hermeneutics in the English department at Northwestern, he is honored in his field, beloved by friends and family, and ready to drift quietly into tenured middle age. But then he discovers he can fly.

Sure, he can only fly very, very slowly—he needs to have his hands thrust out in front of him like Superman—and he only flies three or four inches above the ground. In fact, as he has to be prone to do it, he is, in flight, further from the sky than ever.

But why does this nonetheless amazing phenomenon drive so many people into a rage? Why do he and his family find themselves dodging livid magicians, exploitative friends, scheming billionairesses, thirteen-year-old boys who are sure they saw the wire, and, perhaps worst of all, angry hermeneuticians?

George's friend Harvey tells him that, beneath all the chaos, his gift has to have a meaning. But to find it, Harvey says, George needs to understand one thing: "You're not flying, you're being flown."
