  The Hittites were mentioned in the Bible. They were an Anatolian people that contributed to creating a kingdom in Kussara before 1750 BC, the Kanesh or Nesha kingdom between 1750 and 1650 BC, and finally an empire based upon Hattusa in north-central Anatolia around 1650 BC. Under uppiluliuma I, the empire reached its peak in the mid-14th century BC, when it ruled over much of Anatolia and areas of the northern Levant and Upper Mesopotamia.Between the 15th and 13th centuries BC, the Hattusa Empire, also called the Hittite Empire, defended control of the Near East with the New Kingdom of Egypt, the Middle Assyrian Empire, and the Mitanni Empire. The Middle Assyrian Empire ultimately emerged as the dominant power, took much of the Hittite Empire, and ransacked the rest by Phrygian newbies to the area. The Hittites separated into numerous self-governing Syro-Hittite countries around c. 1180 BC, at the time of the Late Bronze Age collapse, some of which stayed till the 8th century BC before giving up to the Neo-Assyrian Empire.I urge you to learn more about this fascinating people from the ancient world.

  Hurricane Michael may have taken away some of the landmarks, but this book reveals the history of Florida's Mexico Beach, once known as the "Unforgettable Coast." 
   
   
   
  As French interests in the Americas dwindled, records indicate very little activity around Mexico Beach until rumors of buried riches and sunken ships brought treasure hunters to the coast. In the early 1900s, businessman Felix du Pont purchased the land known today as Mexico Beach. Resin to make turpentine was harvested from the native pine trees, and fishermen could not resist the migratory fish passing through the area's waters. By the 1930s, United States Highway 98 was completed, and visitors could finally reach the sugar-soft sand beaches of the "Unforgettable Coast." By 1941, Tyndall Field was constructed and became a training site for Air Force pilots. In 1946, a group of farsighted businessmen, led by Gordan Parker, W.T. McGowan, and J.W. Wainwright, purchased 1,850 acres along the beach for $65,000. Parker's son Charlie moved to the area in 1949 with his wife, Inky, and their family. He soon took over development responsibilities for the Mexico Beach Corporation and laid the groundwork for the beach town known and loved today. Charlie went on to become the city's first mayor and a lifelong advocate of the family-friendly community.

  The Iran Hostage Crisis did not emerge in isolation but was the culmination of a series of events that built tension between the United States and Iran over the course of several years. At the heart of this turmoil was the downfall of the Pahlavi monarchy and the rise of the Islamic Republic, a shift that drastically altered Iran's relationship with the West. The turning point came in 1979 when the Iranian Revolution ousted the U.S.-backed Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and brought Ayatollah Khomeini to power. While the revolution was a victory for many Iranians seeking an end to decades of autocratic rule and foreign influence, it created an atmosphere of political uncertainty, particularly regarding U.S.-Iranian relations. 
  The United States had long supported the Shah, who was seen as a crucial ally in the Middle East during the Cold War. In return, the Shah implemented policies that favored American economic and military interests, while also suppressing dissent within Iran. However, his reign became increasingly unpopular among Iranians, particularly the religious clerics and the working class, who viewed his modernization policies as an imposition of Western culture and values. By 1978, protests and demonstrations had erupted across Iran, eventually leading to the Shah’s exile in January 1979. 
  In the wake of the Shah’s departure, Iran underwent a dramatic transformation. The revolutionary movement, initially diverse in its goals, quickly coalesced under Khomeini’s leadership. Khomeini’s vision of an Islamic Republic, where political power was rooted in Shi’a religious authority, resonated with a wide segment of the population. His rhetoric condemned not only the Shah’s regime but also U.S. imperialism, which was seen as a driving force behind Iran’s oppressive system. Khomeini’s calls for a return to Islamic principles and the removal of foreign influence became central tenets of the revolution.
