Summary

Observe the "merry war" of wit between two reluctant lovers who insist they are immune to marriage, even as their friends conspire to bring them together. The sparkling verbal fencing of Beatrice and Benedick is contrasted with a darker subplot of deception and shaming, highlighting the fragility of reputation. The play masterfully balances broad physical comedy with a sophisticated critique of gender roles and social expectations. It is a celebration of the intellect's ability to eventually yield to the heart.

When scholars study the history of the ancient Near East, several wars that had extremely brutal consequences (at least by modern standards) often stand out. Forced removal of entire populations, sieges that decimated entire cities, and wanton destruction of property were all tactics used by the various peoples of the ancient Near East against each other, but the Assyrians were the first people to make war a science. When the Assyrians are mentioned, images of war and brutality are among the first that come to mind, despite the fact that their culture prospered for nearly 2,000 years.
Like a number of ancient individuals and empires in that region, the negative perception of ancient Assyrian culture was passed down through Biblical accounts, and regardless of the accuracy of the Bible’s depiction of certain events, the Assyrians clearly played the role of adversary for the Israelites. Indeed, Assyria (Biblical Shinar) and the Assyrian people played an important role in many books of the Old Testament and are first mentioned in the book of Genesis: “And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech, and Akkad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. Out of that land went forth Ashur and built Nineveh and the city Rehoboth and Kallah.” (Gen. 10:10-11). Although the Biblical accounts of the Assyrians are among the most interesting and are often corroborated with other historical sources, the Assyrians were much more than just the enemies of the Israelites and brutal thugs.

Christopher Phillips has devoted his life to carrying the torch of Socrates and his quest to "Know Thyself." Yet upon the death of his beloved father and mentor, the originator of the burgeoning global Socrates Café movement had little choice but to confront the inescapable truth: that there are some things we cannot know for sure. This moving, insightful and ultimately hopeful and helpful blend of memoir and philosophical exploration begins in Phillips' native stomping grounds of the island of Nisyros, Greece and unfurls through space and time as the author explores the connections between his immediate circumstances and the eternal wisdom of popular philosophers.

In this personal and probing book, the acclaimed 'philosopher for the people' shares lessons gleaned from his intimate and often unexpected encounters with uncommonly perceptive human beings both living and long deceased. Along the way, he charts a pathway for sculpting what Shakespeare describes as a "soul of goodness," which meshes with Plato's paradigm-shattering conception of the "healthiness of soul." For those struggling to overcome the hopelessness that can result from grievous loss, setback, or betrayal, the author spotlights how to cultivate a 'Socratic spirit' that leads to renewed love, forbearance, and hope at the other end of the tunnel.

Do you feel pain and sadness uncontrollably bubbling out of your body?
Are you struggling with feelings of anxiety and the fear of not being loved?

Do you struggle to explain in a rational way why this happens to you?
Are you in touch with your inner child?

Often, the baggage we carry from our childhood can be very difficult to shake off, especially when we have been exposed to deep trauma.

This pain leaves wounds that can affect the ability to experience happiness, enjoy current relationships, achieve success, or perhaps even raise children in the way that you want to.
Some of the signs that your inner child is still suffering:

    Difficulty with emotions
    Anxiety with new experiences
    Obsessive and Needy
    Poor Self-Esteem
    Difficulty with Boundaries
    Identity Problems
The effects of unresolved pain build up over time and change the way in which we perceive events, people and ourselves. For those who have been abused or neglected, the effects have far-reaching consequences and if you don't take action they will continue indefinitely.

It won't be easy, but with the practical exercises in this manual, I will take you by the hand to reconnect with the little boy or girl within you.
If we undertake inner-child work by connecting to the little boy or girl within us, we can reconnect with some of the reasons for our adult fears, phobias and life patterns. When we begin to understand them, then the fantastic magic of healing and peace with oneself can occur. Just take a deep breath, relax that knot in your stomach and grab this book!
