Summary

This work, composed originally for a lay audience and for popular consumption, will be to the aspiring medical student and the hardworking practitioner a lift into the blue, an inspiring vista or "Pisgah-sight" of the evolution of medicine, a realization of what devotion, perseverance, valor and ability on the part of physicians have contributed to this progress, and of the creditable part which our profession has played in the general development of science.
The manuscript of Sir William Osler's lectures on the "Evolution of Modern Medicine," delivered at Yale University in April, 1913, on the Silliman Foundation, was immediately turned in to the Yale University Press for publication. Duly set in type, proofs in galley form had been submitted to him and despite countless interruptions he had already corrected and revised a number of the galleys when the great war came. But with the war on, he threw himself with energy and devotion into the military and public duties which devolved upon him and so never completed his proof-reading and intended alterations. The careful corrections which Sir William made in the earlier galleys show that the lectures were dictated, in the first instance, as loose memoranda for oral delivery rather than as finished compositions for the eye, while maintaining throughout the logical continuity and the engaging con moto which were so characteristic of his literary style.
In revising the lectures for publication, therefore, the editors have merely endeavored to carry out, with care and befitting reverence, the indications supplied in the earlier galleys by Sir William himself. In supplying dates and references which were lacking, his preferences as to editions and readings have been borne in mind. The slight alterations made, the adaptation of the text to the eye, detract nothing from the original freshness of the work.

There is a hidden agenda in Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos’s space exploration to colonize Mars and the Moon. The media portray them as Americans who are rekindling space exploration that was once dominated by the rivalry between the United States and the extinct Soviet Union.
Before you write off what I have just said, hear me out. For more than a decade, I’ve closely studied the lives of Bezos and Musk. I have watched as Jeff Bezos dominated online retailing, and Elon Musk building Tesla and SpaceX. As each spread their wings to critical industries, I began to notice a pattern that only leads to one conclusion, the hidden agenda each harbors.
On the surface, it appears each of them is interested in dominating space. However, when you study how they operate in every industry, you cannot help but conclude that there is more to their modus operandi.
If you would like to find out what this hidden agenda is, and how Musk and Bezos are dominating the industries they each operate in, then BEZOS vs. MUSK is a book you should read.
Here’s more of what you’ll learn in this book:
    ●	Two dreams that Elon Musk has that’ll take him to the top of the air transportation industry.
    ●	Discover two images in the conclusion that shows what Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are planning when they’re done with their respective projects.
    ●	What Jeff Bezos did to force NASA to freeze the Artemis program for a few months.
    ●	An initiative that Elon Musk is undertaking to help increase the thinking power of human beings and why he’s doing it.
    ●	Why Elon Musk and Amazon Web Services have funded OpenAI.
    ●	A potent strategy that Amazon uses to dominate an industry it never operated in before.
    And much much more!
If you want to find out the truth behind the rivalry of Bezos and Musk, get BEZOS vs. MUSK.

Fifty years ago, a young astronomer named Frank Drake pointed a radio telescope at nearby stars in the hope of picking up a signal from an alien civilization. Thus began one of the boldest scientific projects in history, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). But after a half century of scanning the skies, astronomers have little to report but an eerie silence-eerie because many scientists are convinced that the universe is teeming with life. The problem, argues leading physicist and astrobiologist Paul Davies, is that we've been looking in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and in the wrong way. Davies should know. For more than three decades, he has been closely involved with SETI and now chairs the SETI Post-Detection Taskgroup, charged with deciding what to do if we're confronted with evidence of alien intelligence. In this extraordinary book, he shows how SETI has lost its edge, then offers a new and exciting road map for the future.Davies believes that our search so far has been overly anthropocentric: we tend to assume an alien species will look, think, and behave like us. He argues that we need to be far more expansive in our efforts, and in this book he completely redefines the search, challenging existing ideas of what form an alien intelligence might take, how it might try to communicate with us, and how we should respond if we ever do make contact. A provocative and mind-expanding journey, The Eerie Silence will thrill fans of science and science fiction alike.

The recent energy crisis in California triggered the worst reflexes of many business and political leaders who clamored for more fossil-fuel power plants and fewer environmental limits. With the September 11th attacks has come the increased recognition that how we make and distribute energy is nearly impossible to protect.
