Sinopsis

"The Life of Napoleon Bonaparte" in 4 volumes is a comprehensive and meticulously written biographical account of the most notable French statesman and military leader. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) became famous as an artillery commander during the French Revolution. He led many successful campaigns during the French Revolutionary Wars and was Emperor of the French as Napoleon I from 1804 until 1814 and again briefly in 1815 during the Hundred Days. He dominated European and global affairs for more than a decade while leading France against a series of coalitions during the Napoleonic Wars. He won many of these wars and a vast majority of his battles, building a large empire that ruled over much of continental Europe before its final collapse in 1815. Napoleon is considered one of the greatest commanders in history, and his wars and campaigns are studied at military schools worldwide. His political and cultural legacy has made him one of the most celebrated and controversial leaders in human history.

Of all the white American pop music groups that hit the charts before the Beatles, only the Beach Boys continued to thrive throughout the British Invasion to survive into the 1970s and beyond. The Beach Boys helped define both sides of the era we broadly call the sixties, split between their early surf, car, and summer pop and their later hippie, counterculture, and ambitious rock. No other group can claim the Ronettes and the Four Seasons as early 1960s rivals; the Mamas and the Papas and Crosby, Stills and Nash as later 1960s rivals; and the Beatles and the Temptations as decade-spanning counterparts.

This is the first book to take an honest look at the themes running through the Beach Boys’ art and career as a whole and to examine where they sit inside our culture and politics—and why they still grab our attention.

An enthralling and vivid portrait of Queen Catherine of Braganza, wife of Charles II, that reveals her forgotten place in history.

A long-overlooked figure in history, Catherine has a crucial place in the history of the British Empire: she may have failed to produce an heir to the throne, but her marriage to Charles in 1662 marked a key turning point in Britain's imperial ascendancy, for part of her dowry was Bombay, Britain's first territory of the Indian subcontinent. Catherine also was highly influential in the worlds of fashion, Baroque art and music, and food and culture. She popularized tea drinking, bringing England's national drink into fashion for the first time. Her life was at the nexus of Old and New Worlds, war and exploration, frivolity, and scientific inquiry.

Noteworthy in its scope and approach to sources, The Lost Queen combines personal and political accounts, offering a lively portrait of Catherine's life, and the wider politics and explorations of her time.

Welcome to our digital audiobook collection of Irish writings, featuring three thought-provoking works by some of Ireland's greatest writers.

First up is Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal," a satirical essay that takes a darkly humorous approach to addressing the poverty and suffering of the Irish people in the 18th century. Swift proposes that the solution to the country's economic woes is for the wealthy to buy and eat the children of the poor. This shocking proposal is not meant to be taken seriously but rather to highlight the callousness of those in power towards the plight of the less fortunate.

Next, we have "The Three Wishes", a charming folk tale that has been passed down through generations. The story follows a poor woodcutter who is granted three wishes by a fairy after showing her kindness. However, each wish comes with unintended consequences, and the woodcutter must learn the value of contentment and gratitude.

Finally, we have "Law in Ireland" by Maria Edgeworth, a renowned Irish novelist and literary figure. In this essay, Edgeworth explores the legal system in Ireland and the challenges faced by those seeking justice. She draws on personal experiences and observations to offer a nuanced perspective on the flaws and strengths of the system and proposes potential solutions.

This collection offers a diverse range of works that showcase the wit, humor, and insight of Irish writers. With expert narration and immersive sound design, our digital audiobook collection brings these stories to life, making them accessible to listeners around the world.
