  The Heart of Atlanta Supreme Court decision stands among the court’s most significant civil rights rulings. 
   
  In Atlanta, Georgia, two arch segregationists vowed to flout the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the sweeping slate of civil rights reforms just signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The Pickrick restaurant was run by Lester Maddox, soon to be  
  governor of Georgia, and the Heart of Atlanta motel was operated by lawyer Moreton Rolleston Jr. After the law was signed, a group of ministry students—George Willis, Albert Dunn, and Woodrow Lewis—showed up for a plate of skilletfried chicken at the Pickrick; Maddox greeted them with a pistol, axe handles, and  
  a mob of White supporters. At the Heart of Atlanta, ministers Albert Sampson and Charles Wells sought rooms, but Moreton Rolleston refused to accept the Black patrons. 
   
  These confrontations became the centerpiece of the nation’s first two legal challenges to the Civil Rights Act. In gripping detail built from exclusive interviews and original documents, Heart of Atlanta reveals the saga of the case’s rise to the  
  US Supreme Court, which unanimously rejected the segregationists. Heart of Atlanta restores the legal cases and their heroes to their proper place in history.

  Tens of millions died during World War II as the warring powers raced to create the best fighter planes, tanks, and guns, and eventually that race extended to bombs which carried enough power to destroy civilization itself. While the war raged in Europe and the Pacific, a dream team of Nobel Laureates was working on the Manhattan Project in America, a program kept so secret that Vice President Harry Truman didn’t know about it until he took the presidency after FDR’s death in April 1945.  
  The pursuit of nuclear weapons moved the scientist nearer to the role of combatant, placing special responsibilities on the scientific community to make critical moral decisions. However, as they developed atomic weapons, they could at the same time only warn military powers of their use. Advocates for nuclear power as a civilian energy resource but expressing misgivings about nuclear war put them at odds with uninformed branches of the military. The American government and the population at large, who possessed little understanding of the perilous science behind the technology, brought about charges of unpatriotic behavior for such misgivings. Scientists, meanwhile, were caught between the excitement of creating a new paradigm, and the dread of their eventual use.  
  The American war effort against the Japanese and Germans also included denying either one the use of a practical nuclear weapon. Physics was in its highest stage of advancement in Europe during this time, while J. Robert Oppenheimer emerged as an extraordinary scientific mind in the United States. Despite requiring the work of thousands of scientists and assistants in fashioning the weapon that eventually came to pass, Oppenheimer alone has been become renowned as the “father of the atomic bomb” due to his leadership of the Manhattan Project.

  This is a combo of three different topics, which are the following: 
  Topic 1, Lourdes: You may have heard of Lourdes, a town in France where millions of people go every year, either as a tourist to take pictures or see what the hype is all about, or real believers who think that the town has a sanctity to it and can somehow cure them, help them, or inspire them through divine means. Whatever the reason for the many visitors is, it is undeniably an interesting historical heritage, something worth exploring. 
  Topic 2, the Gauls: This is a book about a people that has often been overlooked. Wallowing in the shadow of the seemingly almighty Romans, and dispersed throughout the ages into other peoples, the Gauls appear as if they had nothing going for them. Quite the opposite is true. The Gauls had a distinct culture, with habits, warfare, and so much more to offer to the intrigued historian and everyday researcher. 
  Throughout the Iron Age and the Roman period, the Gauls were a collection of Celtic tribes from Continental Europe (circa from the fifth century BC to the fifth century advertisement). 
  Topic 3, the Huguenots: An important chapter in history is that in which the Catholic Church was being questioned by the commoners. People were standing up against tyranny and illogical rules. They had had it with hypocrisy and double standards. The abuse in the church wasn’t representing the text in the Bible. Too much corruption had crept into the clergy, or so the narrative went about across the entire European continent. 
  The Huguenots were a spiritual group of French Protestants who complied with the Reformed, or Calvinist, Protestant custom. The expression originates from the name of a Swiss politician, Genevan burgomaster Bezanson Hugues (from about 1491 - 1532) and was commonly used in Europe by the 16th century.
