Sinopse

The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, also known as the Conquest of Mexico or the Spanish-Aztec War (1519–21), was one of the primary events in the Spanish colonization of the Americas. There are multiple 16th-century narratives of the events by Spanish conquistadors, their indigenous allies, and the defeated Aztecs. It was not solely a contest between a small contingent of Spaniards defeating the Aztec Empire but rather the creation of a coalition of Spanish invaders with tributaries to the Aztecs, and most especially the Aztecs' indigenous enemies and rivals. They combined forces to defeat the Mexica of Tenochtitlan over a two-year period. For the Spanish, the expedition to Mexico was part of a project of Spanish colonization of the New World after twenty-five years of permanent Spanish settlement and further exploration in the Caribbean.

William Hickling Prescott (May 4, 1796 – January 28, 1859) was an American historian and Hispanist, who is widely recognized by historiographers to have been the first American scientific historian. Despite having serious visual impairment, which at times prevented him from reading or writing for himself, Prescott became one of the most eminent historians of 19th century America. He is also noted for his eidetic memory.
After an extensive period of study, during which he sporadically contributed to academic journals, Prescott specialized in late Renaissance Spain and the early Spanish Empire. His works on the subject, The History of the Reign of Ferdinand and Isabella the Catholic (1837), The History of the Conquest of Mexico (1843), A History of the Conquest of Peru (1847) and the unfinished History of the Reign of Phillip II (1856–1858) have become classic works in the field, and have had a great impact on the study of both Spain and Mesoamerica. During his lifetime, he was upheld as one of the greatest living American intellectuals, and knew personally many of the leading political figures of the day, in both the United States and Britain. Prescott has become one of the most widely translated American historians, and was an important figure in the development of history as a rigorous academic discipline. Historians admire Prescott for his exhaustive, careful, and systematic use of archives, his accurate recreation of sequences of events, his balanced judgments and his lively writing style. He was primarily focused on political and military affairs, largely ignoring economic, social, intellectual, and cultural forces that in recent decades historians have focused on. Instead, he wrote narrative history, subsuming unstated causal forces in his driving storyline.

In this book, we'll discuss two genocides that have cost the lives of millions but have often been overlooked by world historians. These are the following:
1 - It’s insane to think that mass murder didn’t stop at the end of World War II. Since the Holocaust, various genocides have taken place in different areas of the world. In this book, we’ll talk about something that has often been shoved under the rug, but was definitely a consequence of the Vietnam War, the bombings by the Americans, and a domino effect into an already fragile political country: The nation of Cambodia.
The Cambodian genocide was the methodical abuse and death of Cambodians by the Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, the general secretary of the Communist Party of Kampuchea, who pushed Cambodia towards being an entirely self-dependent agrarian socialist state. Between 1975 and 1979, 1.5 to 2 million people were murdered, representing about a quarter of Cambodia's population in 1975. (c. 7.8 million).
2 - Yes, even before World War II, there was a genocide, and not too long before that, actually. We are talking about the Armenian deportations that killed between 1 and 2 million innocent civilians, an atrocity the Turkish government still doesn’t fully acknowledge. Rock bands like System of a Down have complained in their music about it, historians have turned pieces of evidences into large books, and when you talk to Armenians, they still remember what their ancestors told them about it.
The Ottoman Empire was collapsing, and in a cruel act of desperation and vengeance, they decided to take out their empirical frustrations on the Armenians and “take care of the Armenian problem.” Mass rapes, murder, deportation, theft, robberies, starvation, and mayhem was the consequence. It became one of the ugliest faces of the First World War in history.

Efforts at colorblindness and antiracism have not been very effective in addressing racial tensions in the United States.

Colorblindness ignores the realities of race and the history of injustice. On the other hand, antiracism centers racial concerns and in so doing often alienates people who need to be involved in the process. Sociologist George Yancey offers an alternative approach to racial relations where all parties contribute and are mutually accountable to one another for societal well-being. He provides empirical rationale for how collaborative conversations in a mutual accountability model can reduce racial division. History and societal complexity mean that different participants may have different kinds of responsibility, but all are involved in seeking the common good for all to thrive. Avoiding unilateral decisions that close off dialogue, Yancey casts a vision for moving beyond racial alienation toward a lifestyle and movement of collaborative conversation and mutuality.

New York Times best-selling author Patrick Lencioni unveils a truly groundbreaking new model that will change the way we think about work and teams forever.

The 6 Types of Working Genius is the fastest way to help people identify the type of work that brings them joy and energy—and avoid work that leads to frustration and burnout.

Beyond the personal discovery and instant relief that the Working Genius provides, the model also gives teams a remarkably simple and practical framework for tapping into one another’s natural gifts, which increases productivity and reduces unnecessary judgment.

In classic Lencioni fashion, Pat brings his model to life in a page-turning fable that is as relatable as it is compelling. He tells the story of Bull Brooks, an entrepreneur, husband, and father, who sets out to solve his own frustration at
work and stumbles into a new way of thinking that changes the way he sees his work, his team, and even his marriage.

What sets this book—and the model behind it—apart from other tools and assessments is the speed at which it can be understood and applied, and the relevance it has to every kind of work in life, from running a company to launching a product to managing a family.

This book bundle contains the following 3 titles:
    - Mercantilism Explained: Mercantilism, a dominant economic theory from the 16th to the 18th century, played a pivotal role in shaping the economic and political landscape of early modern Europe. Rooted in the belief that a nation's wealth and power were measured by its stockpile of precious metals, particularly gold and silver, mercantilism emphasized the importance of maintaining a favorable balance of trade. Nations sought to maximize exports while minimizing imports, often employing protectionist policies to achieve this goal. This approach reflected the belief that global wealth was finite, creating fierce competition among nations to secure the largest share of resources and economic advantage.
    - Communism vs. Capitalism: An economic system refers to the structure and methods a society uses to produce, distribute, and consume goods and services. It defines how resources are allocated, how wealth is distributed, and how economic decisions are made. Different societies have developed various economic systems over time, influenced by their unique historical, cultural, and political contexts. Among these systems, capitalism and communism are two of the most prominent and contrasting economic ideologies that have shaped the global landscape.
    - Economic Impacts of Imperialism: Cultural and ideological factors also played a role in shaping imperialism. The belief in the superiority of certain civilizations over others justified the conquest and subjugation of indigenous peoples. Religion was another motivator, with missionary efforts often accompanying territorial expansion. Christianity, in particular, became a tool for legitimizing imperial control, as colonizing powers framed their endeavors as missions to civilize and convert native populations.
