Sinopsis

William Edward Hartpole Lecky's "History of European Morals From Augustus to Charlemagne" delves into the evolution of moral thought and ethical practice in Europe from the Roman Empire to the early Middle Ages. The work is characterized by Lecky'Äôs rigorous analytical style and comprehensive scope, intertwining historical narrative with cultural critique, illustrating how societal norms shaped and were shaped by political, religious, and social forces. Lecky's extensive research draws upon primary sources and contemporaneous literature, situating the reader within the intricacies of moral philosophy and its ramifications during this transformative period in history. Lecky (1838-1903), an Irish historian and philosopher, was deeply influenced by the intellectual currents of his time, including Utilitarianism and the rising interest in sociology. His background as a liberal thinker and his commitment to rationality and empiricism drove him to examine morality as a historical construct. His scholarly pursuits were marked by a desire to understand how historical contexts inform ethical behavior, evident in his meticulous approach to dissecting historical moral frameworks. For readers interested in the genesis of modern moral thought, Lecky'Äôs work is essential. It not only provides a sweeping overview of historical moral developments but also invites reflections on contemporary ethical issues, making it an invaluable resource for historians, philosophers, and anyone intrigued by the interplay between history and morality.

Known to millions as the imperious matriarch of Bridgerton's court, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was still a teenager when she was chosen to be the bride of King George III. Shy, innocent, and sheltered, the orphaned princess and her groom carried the hopes of a nation on their shoulders.

The unassuming young couple symbolized a new beginning, but soon those hopes began to sour. Charlotte and George's marriage lasted for nearly sixty years and produced more than a dozen children, but it was beset by unrest at home, war in the colonies, and the king's encroaching madness.

As the royal couple battled against their critics, their political opponents, and sometimes their own family, Charlotte learned what it really meant to be queen. Locked in a bitter struggle with her eldest son for the king's future and with her daughters for their freedom, the timid young girl grew into an insular and domineering woman that few dared to cross.

Shouldering the burden of family disputes, ambitious courtiers, and the care of the man she adored, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz presided over one of the most tumultuous eras that the monarchy has ever seen. This is the story of her extraordinary life.

In Destiny of Souls (2009), hypnotherapist Michael Newton presents his vision of the spirit world and how it works. Based on case studies of his patients, Newton answers pressing questions about the life of a soul in the spirit world: its birth, incarnation, reincarnation, and development both on Earth and beyond. After death on Earth, the soul travels back to the spirit world where it joins its soul group and there evolves, learns, socializes, and prepares for its next incarnation. But the activity of souls is not limited to the spirit world. They also take part in life on Earth as visitors or helpers and assist humans in their spiritual journeys.

Bedtime stories aren’t just for kids anymore…Do you find that you struggle to sleep, no matter how hard you try to cope with it? Are you always exhausted even though you know that you shouldn’t be? If you find that bedtime is impossible for you to cope with, then this book is for you!As you read through this book, you will build off of the skills from the previous two books, mastering the concepts of mindfulness so that you can feel far more capable of navigating your own difficult feelings with ease. There is a reason that bedtime stories are so recommended for getting children to sleep; after all—having time to enjoy a story allows your mind to relax and allows you to begin to focus more on the moment. You may be pleasantly surprised and discover that through reading these bedtime stories, you will help your mind relax and ease off to sleep. In this book, you will continue the use of meditation that has been built in the previous books. Then, you will be provided with several options for bedtime stories. Each story is designed to be a calming slice of life story about the various adventures (and sometimes misadventures) of Sophie Rogers, a young woman that lives in the Pacific Northwest with her German shepherd pal, Bella. Together, and sometimes separately, they get out and enjoy their lives and the stories of her day to day life can help you to relax and soothe yourself into a state in which you will be able to relax. As you read, you should find yourself calming down and preparing for a night of sleep. Each of the options that are provided to you should be fun and engaging without keeping you up at night. Finally, at the end of the book, you will be given two more traditional mindful meditations that are designed to trigger that state of mindfulness within yourself so you can then begin to relax and enjoy a restful night’s sleep. When you utilize these techniques, you can calm yourself down when you need to, allowing yourself to finally fall asleep.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, abolitionist, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was seen as a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society, and his ideology was disseminated through dozens of published essays and more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.

Emerson gradually moved away from the religious and social beliefs of his contemporaries, formulating and expressing the philosophy of transcendentalism in his 1836 essay "Nature". Following this work, he gave a speech entitled "The American Scholar" in 1837, which Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. considered to be America's "intellectual Declaration of Independence."

Emerson wrote most of his important essays as lectures first and then revised them for print. His first two collections of essays, Essays: First Series and Essays: Second Series, represent the core of his thinking. They include the well-known essays "Self-Reliance", "The Over-Soul", "Circles", "The Poet", and "Experience." Together with "Nature", these essays made the decade from the mid-1830s to the mid-1840s Emerson's most fertile period. Emerson wrote on a number of subjects, never espousing fixed philosophical tenets, but developing certain ideas such as individuality, freedom, the ability for mankind to realize almost anything, and the relationship between the soul and the surrounding world. Emerson's "nature" was more philosophical than naturalistic: "Philosophically considered, the universe is composed of Nature and the Soul." Emerson is one of several figures who "took a more pantheist or pandeist approach by rejecting views of God as separate from the world."
