Sinopse

This edition includes the following editor's introduction: Willa Cather, an analysis of the literature of a free and empowered woman

First published in 1915, "The Song of the Lark" is a novel by American author Willa Cather and perhaps her most autobiographical work.

“The Song of the Lark” tells the story of Thea Kronborg, a young Scandinavian-American woman's awakening as an artist against the backdrop of the western landscape, an artist’s growth and development from childhood to maturity. More particularly—and decidedly more rarely—it traces the development of a female artist supported by a series of male characters willing to serve her career.

Thea struggles to escape from the confines her small Colorado town to the world of possibility in the Metropolitan Opera House. Throughout the book, she grows up, learning herself, her strengths and her talent, until she reaches success.

Inspired by Willa Cather’s own development as a novelist and by the career of an opera diva, “The Song of the Lark” examines the themes of the artist’s relationship with family and society, themes that would dominate all of Cather’s best fiction.
In classic Cather style, the novel is the beautiful, unforgettable story of American determination and its inextricable connection to the land.

By day, Jimmie Dale is a wealthy New York socialite with every privilege at his fingertips. By night, he becomes The Gray Seal—a daring, enigmatic figure who leaves behind a telltale gray diamond-shaped seal at the scene of each break-in. But unlike ordinary criminals, the Gray Seal’s exploits are driven by a higher purpose: exposing corruption, protecting the innocent, and dismantling the city’s underworld from within.
As Dale walks the razor’s edge between high society and the criminal underworld, he faces ruthless gang leaders, shadowy masterminds, and the ever-present risk of discovery. With his quick wit, masterful disguises, and fearless heart, he wages a thrilling battle for justice, one secret mission at a time.
First published in 1917, The Adventures of Jimmie Dale introduced readers to one of crime fiction’s earliest masked heroes, a character who would inspire generations of pulp, noir, and even modern superheroes. Fast-paced and full of intrigue, it remains a classic of early twentieth-century adventure literature.

Don Quixote is a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615. Considered a founding work of Western literature, it is often labelled as the first modern novel. Don Quixote is also one of the most-translated books in the world and one of the best-selling novels of all time. The plot revolves around the adventures of a member of the lowest nobility, an hidalgo[d] from La Mancha named Alonso Quijano, who reads so many chivalric romances that he loses his mind and decides to become a knight-errant (caballero andante) to revive chivalry and serve his nation, under the name Don Quixote de la Mancha. He recruits as his squire a simple farm labourer, Sancho Panza, who brings a unique, earthy wit to Don Quixote's lofty rhetoric. In the first part of the book, Don Quixote does not see the world for what it is and prefers to imagine that he is living out a knightly story meant for the annals of all time. However, as Salvador de Madariaga pointed out in his Guía del lector del Quijote (1972 [1926]), referring to "the Sanchification of Don Quixote and the Quixotization of Sancho", as "Sancho's spirit ascends from reality to illusion, Don Quixote's declines from illusion to reality".

    Title: The Premature Burial
    Author: Edgar Allan Poe
    Narrator: Jonathan Dunne
    Original Publication: 1844
    Public Domain: Yes
Series Placement: Number 37 in the Timeless Terrors series
    Description:
The Premature Burial by Edgar Allan Poe is one of the author’s most chilling meditations on fear — not of the supernatural, but of the terrible possibilities of life and death themselves. Blending meticulous realism with mounting horror, Poe explores the paralyzing dread of being buried alive, a fate all too plausible in an age before medical certainty.
As the narrator recounts true tales of premature interment and his own spiraling obsession with the grave, the story becomes both a psychological study and a reflection on humanity’s darkest anxieties. Poe’s prose traps the listener in a space between reason and terror — where the heart still beats beneath the coffin lid, and imagination becomes a tomb.
Narrated by Amazon bestselling horror author Jonathan Dunne, this performance captures the suffocating tension and morbid fascination that make The Premature Burial one of Poe’s most enduring works of gothic dread. While the text itself is in the public domain, this narration is an original performance and copyright © 2025 Jonathan Dunne.
Part of Timeless Terrors, a series devoted to resurrecting the masters of the macabre, The Premature Burial stands as a timeless reminder that the truest horror lies not in monsters, but in the fragile boundary between consciousness and the grave.
