In the early 20th century, astronomers began to notice strange things. Galaxies were spinning in ways that defied the laws of physics, at least as we understood them. The stars on the outer edges of galaxies were moving far too fast to be held together by the gravity from visible matter alone. There had to be something else out there, something invisible, something we couldn’t detect with telescopes. This was one of the first big hints that something massive and unseen—what we now call dark matter—was shaping the universe. 
  Modern cosmology was born when scientists started to view the universe not just as a collection of stars and planets, but as a dynamic, evolving structure governed by deep physical laws. Einstein’s theory of general relativity reshaped our understanding of space, time, and gravity. Suddenly, the universe was a place where space could bend, expand, and even accelerate. These ideas led to the Big Bang theory and the realization that the cosmos had a beginning and has been changing ever since. But as astronomers began mapping out galaxies and measuring their movements, inconsistencies popped up. The math didn’t add up unless we assumed that most of the mass in the universe was missing from our view. That mass didn’t emit light, didn’t reflect it, and didn’t absorb it. It was dark, but it was there.

  Zietsman puts forth a much-needed critique of man and his actions over the past century as well as personal stories as contra-example to the narratives we that have dominated the ranching world. 
  Achieving the ranch goal of maximum sustainable profit per hectare depends on breeding and feeding cattle (and all grazing species) as the grazers that they are. Efforts should be directed at raising cattle that are more efficient converters of forage, not on trying to make forage-reliant species into grain-efficient machines. Forces of nature created the animals we have, and their genetic potential will be brought out through non-selective grazing and proper supplementation. 
  Non-selective, time-controlled grazing, in which 80 to 95 percent of the mass of all grasses and forbs are utilized, thus pruning plants back to their crowns, is the process by which grasslands are improved in both plant vigor and species composition. I cannot overemphasize the importance of this last point—plant species diversity is promoted by time-controlled severe grazing events, whereas selective, take half leave half grazing is much more limited in improving species diversity, even leading to species narrowing in some circumstances.

  Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a cognitive-behavioral approach developed by Albert Ellis in the 1950s.   REBT operates on the premise that people often hold onto irrational beliefs that are unrealistic, extreme, and unhelpful. These beliefs can be categorized into three core demands: the demand for approval from others, the demand for fairness or justice, and the demand for achievement and success. These irrational demands fuel negative emotions like anxiety, frustration, and depression, leading individuals to feel powerless or inadequate.
