Summary

The wholly virtual world known as Second Life has attracted more than a million active users, millions of dollars, and created its own—very real—economy.
The Making of Second Life is the behind-the-scenes story of the Web 2.0 revolution's most improbable enterprise: the creation of a virtual 3-D world with its own industries, culture, and social systems. Now the toast of the Internet economy, and the subject of countless news articles, profiles, and television shows, Second Life is usually known for the wealth of real-world companies (Reuters, Pontiac, IBM) that have created "virtual offices" within it, and the number of users ("avatars") who have become wealthy through their user-created content.
What sets Second Life apart from other online worlds, and what has made it such a success (one million-plus monthly users and growing) is its simple user-centered philosophy. Instead of attempting to control the activities of those who enter it, the creators of Second Life turned them loose: users (also known as Residents) own the rights to the intellectual content they create in-world, and the in-world currency of Linden Dollars is freely exchangeable for U.S. currency. Residents have responded by generating millions of dollars of economic activity through their in-world designs and purchases—currently, the Second Life economy averages more than one million U.S. dollars in transactions every day, while dozens of real-world companies and projects have evolved and developed around content originated in Second Life.
Wagner James Au explores the long, implausible road behind that success, and looks at the road ahead, where many believe that user-created worlds like Second Life will become the Net's next generation and the fulcrum for a revolution in the way we shop, work, and interact. Au's story is narrated from both within the corporate offices of Linden Lab, Second Life's creator, and from within Second Life itself, revealing all the fascinating, outrageous, brilliant, and aggravating personalities who make Second Life a very real place—and an illuminating mirror on the real (physical) world. Au writes about the wars they fought (sometimes literally), the transformations they underwent, the empires of land and commerce they developed, and above all, the collaborative creativity that makes their society an imperfect utopia, better in some ways than the one beyond their computer screens.

Agile Coaching remains a prominent career progression trend for many Agile practitioners like scrum master and agile project managers who feel like they outgrew the shoes of their digital delivery roles.
This audiobook is my attempt to summarize the learning and observations from inside the Agile professional space, explaining in simple terms what an agile coach is really supposed to do and how they are different from agile delivery roles such as scrum master, and ultimately, how to properly transition into a coaching role. It involves having basic knowledge, plan of attack, and a simple coaching framework at your disposal.
While the majority of the other books on Agile Coaching cover the role and this professional sphere as a "Destination", I try and present it to you as a "Journey" that has its specifics, insider tricks, and might not be for everyone.
My goal as an author of this book was to create that extra angle - a viewpoint helping you obtain a more all-rounded perspective on what being an Agile Coach is really going to be like, should you step into a typical scenario of helping some company with their Agile Transformation at a medium to large scale.
You will learn: What makes agile coaching different and unique The differences in methods from those of scrum master and trainers Typical coaching journey outline within a transforming organization How to ensure you are all set for success as an agile coach What tools to use and whenYour basic coaching framework How to measure agile adoption progress What is coaching definition of done and why you need one
The audiobook also includes a lot of related things that are both personal or experience-based and relying on facts you could cross-check with other sources of information.

The term "alpha male" has often been misunderstood, misrepresented, and even maligned in various contexts. It has been associated with notions of dominance, aggression, and toxic masculinity. However, at its core, being an alpha male is about much more than mere dominance; it's about embracing a mindset of confidence, leadership, authenticity, and integrity.

In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the history, psychology, and evolution of the alpha male archetype. We will explore the traits and characteristics that define the alpha male, and we will provide practical strategies and techniques for developing these traits within ourselves.

But let me make one thing clear from the outset: this book is not about promoting a one-size-fits-all approach to masculinity. We recognize that masculinity is a diverse and multifaceted concept, and there is no single "right" way to be a man. Instead, our aim is to empower readers to cultivate their own unique expression of masculinity—one that aligns with their values, strengths, and aspirations.

By the early twentieth century, it became common to describe the United States as a "business civilization." President Coolidge in 1925 said, "The chief business of the American people is business." More recently, historian Sven Beckert characterized Henry Ford's massive manufactory as the embodiment of America: "While Athens had its Parthenon and Rome its Colosseum, the United States had its River Rouge Factory in Detroit . . . " How did business come to assume such power and cultural centrality in America? This volume explores the variety of business enterprise in the United States and analyzes its presence in the country's economy, its evolution over time, and its meaning in society. It introduces listeners to formative business leaders (including Elbert Gary, Harlow Curtice, and Mary Kay Ash), leading firms (Mellon Bank, National Cash Register, Xerox), and fiction about business people (The Octopus, Babbitt, The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit). It also discusses Alfred Chandler, Joseph Schumpeter, Mira Wilkins, and others who made significant contributions to understanding of America's business history. This VSI pursues its three central themes—the evolution, scale, and culture of American business—in a chronological framework stretching from the American Revolution to today.
