Hidden behind the portraits of Frida Kahlo is the remarkable story of the artist’s life. It is precisely this combination that attracts the spectator. Frida’s work is a testimony of her life; it is not often that one can understand an artist simply by looking within the frame of their paintings. Frida Kahlo is without any doubt Mexico’s gift to art history. She was just eighteen when a terrible accident changed her life forever, leaving her disabled and in constant pain. But her explosive temper, her unwavering determination and her eagerness gave her the strength to develop her artistic talent.

Always at her side was the great Mexican painter and muralist Diego Rivera. His compulsive womanizing did not prevent Frida from captivating him with her charms, her talent and her intelligence. She quickly learnt to make the most of Diego’s success to discover the world, creating her own legacy along the way and being surrounded by a very close group of attentive friends. Her personal life was stormy: several times she left Diego in order to have relationships with people of both sexes. Nonetheless, Frida and Diego were able to save their deteriorating romance. The history and the paintings that Frida left us reveal the story of a brave woman in constant search of her identity.

'NBC University Theater’ initially started in Chicago with a remit to bring adaptations of classic novels, usually Anglo-American, to a radio audience.

Additionally, if listeners signed up they received college credit to a radio-assisted correspondence course. A study guide, The Handbook of the World's Great Novels, was available for 25 cents.

In its later years it also included short stories and plays and went on to win the distinguished Peabody award.

Unlike many other radio shows University Theatre did not pursue the glamourous stars for its productions but instead relied on excellent distillations of the novels and first class acting alongside high production values.

But now its time to enjoy these timeless novels. Let’s begin.

Documents discovered recently in the hidden backrooms of St Petersburg’s Ethnological Museum have proved to be of sensational importance. The contents are published for the very first time in this work. Representing photos and descriptions of art and sculpture, of everyday utensils and everyday activities, all dating from the beginning of the twentieth century, these are the archives of ethnic groups in Siberia who for the most part have fougth tenaciously to maintain their historical traditions. The authors brilliantly convey their enthusiastic admiration for the peoples who have so successfully and for so long contended against both hostile environment and political dominance.

The man, the music, the mythology - everyone knows Elvis, right? From the swinging hips and tempestuous love life to the peanut butter and banana sandwiches. But how do the iconic snapshots and the snippets of rumour match up with the truth about the man behind the legend? Michael Freedland's Elvis Memories sets out to answer precisely that question - and succeeds in grand style, giving us a rare and privileged glimpse into the intimate recollections of the people who really knew him. On a journey that spans the United States, Freedland introduces us to Presley's friends, family and followers, taking in the kids who competed against him in childhood talent shows, the members of the 'Memphis Mafia' who went everywhere with him and the maid who prepared those infamous sandwiches and watched him line up the girls he wanted to take to his bed. Thirty-five years after the death of the man we still call 'The King', Elvis Memories offers a unique chance to see the real Elvis Presley through the eyes of those who shared his life.

    A New York Times Bestseller
Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner first crossed paths as actors on the set of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Little did they know that their next roles as Spock and Captain Kirk, in a new science-fiction television series, would shape their lives in ways no one could have anticipated. In seventy-nine television episodes of Star Trek and six feature films, they grew to know each other more than most friends could ever imagine.
Over the course of half a century, Shatner and Nimoy saw each other through personal and professional highs and lows. In this powerfully emotional audio-book, Shatner tells the story of a man who was his friend for five decades, recounting anecdotes and untold stories of their lives on and off set, as well as gathering stories from others who knew Nimoy well, to present a full picture of a rich life.
As much a biography of Nimoy as a story of their friendship, Leonard is a uniquely heartfelt audio-book written and read by one legendary actor in celebration of another.A Macmillan Audio production.
