From objects to sounds, choreography is expanding beyond dance and human bodies in motion. This book offers one of the rare systematic investigations of expanded choreography as it develops in contemporaneity, and is the first to consider expanded choreography from a trans-historical perspective. Through case studies on different periods of European dance history - ranging from Renaissance dance to William Forsythe's choreographic objects and from Baroque court ballets to digital choreographies - it traces a journey of choreography as a practice transcending its sole association with dancing, moving, human bodies.

"Joyce Fidler's life is one of many twists and turns and highs and lows. Sometimes she'll shock you; other times she'll bring you to tears. If you have an alcohol or drug addiction problem, her book will uplift you and encourage you to make important changes in your life. It's not a preachy book; instead, it's very honest and forthright." Terry Hassman-Paulin, Editor at Silver Burdett Ginn (ret.)
"A memoir of a frenzied woman" Frank Dungan, TV Producer/Emmy Winning Writer
"Joyce Fidler tells a mind-blowing story. Being a musician myself who tripped through that era I knew from the first that this was real, but Fidler's unique POV made it a brand-new experience. I didn't think that I could be shocked, but particular parts of her story left me wide-eyed. The spiritual message left me teary-eyed." A collection of essays by female horror writers exploring portrayals of diabolical mothers in both modern and classic horror films. The concept of motherhood, often idealized as the epitome of unconditional love and nurturing, has been twisted and perverted in various cinematic works to explore darker, more complex human dynamics. Led by Bram Stoker, Shirley Jackson Award, and two-time World Fantasy Award winning editor and acclaimed film professor Danel Olson, the essayists introduce listeners to traditional portrayals of mothers in film and literature, establishing a baseline for understanding how diabolical motherhood deviates from the norm. From a historical overview tracing the evolution of malevolent maternal figures in cinema, from early depictions of wicked stepmothers in fairy tales to the complex, to multifaceted monstrous matriarchs of contemporary films, these essays explore the psychological underpinnings of diabolical motherhood, drawing on author's personal experiences, anecdotes, and research to understand the motivations and mental states driving these characters in a wide range of horror films. The essays offer a deeper understanding of how cinema reflects and shapes our perceptions of motherhood, morality, and power. A must-listen for horror aficionados.

    Kofun Period - The Mysterious...

The Kofun Period, which lasted from approximately 250 to 600 AD, marks a significant era in early Japanese history. This period is named after the distinct burial mounds, or "kofun," that were constructed during this time. These mounds vary in size and shape but are most commonly recognized for their keyhole-like design. The Kofun Period is pivotal as it represents a time of political consolidation, the development of social structures, and the emergence of a powerful ruling elite that would lay the foundation for the imperial system in Japan.
The beginning of the Kofun Period is closely tied to the formation of more complex societies in the Japanese archipelago. By this time, a system of chiefdoms had developed, and the early Yamato state began to emerge as a dominant political force. The period sees the consolidation of power under a centralized leadership, which eventually paved the way for the establishment of the imperial family that still exists today. During the Kofun Period, society transitioned from small, localized groups to more organized and hierarchical structures, a shift that was reflected in the elaborate tombs built for the elites.
The most notable characteristic of the Kofun Period is the construction of large burial mounds for the ruling class. These tombs were not only elaborate final resting places for powerful individuals but also symbolized the political power and religious authority of the deceased. The kofun mounds varied in size, with some measuring several hundred meters in length. These tombs were often surrounded by moats and would contain a wealth of grave goods, such as weapons, jewelry, and pottery, which reflected both the material culture of the time and the importance of the individual being buried.
