Sinopse

"Policing in Minority Communities" delves into the complex relationship between law enforcement agencies and minority communities, focusing on building trust, fairness, and inclusivity in policing practices. We examine the historical context, current challenges, and innovative strategies to improve police-community relations, particularly in communities marginalized based on race, ethnicity, religion, or socioeconomic status.
Drawing on interdisciplinary research, empirical evidence, and real-world case studies, we address critical topics such as racial profiling, bias-based policing, community engagement, and procedural justice. We explore the impact of policing strategies on minority communities and assess the effectiveness of various approaches to enhance trust, legitimacy, and accountability in law enforcement.
In addition to analyzing challenges and disparities in policing practices, we highlight promising practices, policy recommendations, and community-driven initiatives aimed at promoting equity, justice, and safety for all residents. We underscore the importance of collaborative partnerships, cultural competence, and accountability mechanisms in fostering positive police-community relations and addressing systemic inequities in the criminal justice system.
Written for scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders, "Policing in Minority Communities" provides valuable insights and actionable strategies for improving police-community relations, advancing social justice, and building stronger, more resilient communities. By examining the intersection of policing, race, and social inequality, we offer a comprehensive framework for addressing the complex challenges and opportunities in contemporary law enforcement practices.

    How to embrace academic failure...

This book explores current attitudes towards failure in academia. Tara Brabazon argues that success and failures are rarely linked and instead failure can be harnessed as both a diagnostic and a literacy to improve research integrity, authenticity, accountability and consciousness.
Brabazon demonstrates how instances of failure can facilitate an awareness of asymmetrical power dynamics and injustice in academic life. How To Embrace Academic Failure illustrates how to create personal, professional and organizational change as a result of failure. It offers practical strategies for using failure to enhance academic careers and improve research ethics and teaching. Brabazon concludes by presenting an idealised academic future where a culture of failure provides transparency, rigour, ethical leadership and followership.
This insightful book is a vital resource for students and scholars of higher education management, business leadership and the sociology of education. Academics in critical university studies and early career researchers will also benefit from Brabazon's novel perspective on the post-pandemic, claustropolitan university.

Given the abundance of funerary artifacts that have been found within the sands of Egypt, it sometimes seems as though the ancient Egyptians were more concerned with the matters of the afterlife than they were with matters of the life they experienced from day to day. This is underscored most prominently by the pyramids, which have captured the world’s imagination for centuries. The pyramids of Egypt are such recognizable symbols of antiquity that for millennia, people have made assumptions about what they are and why they exist, without full consideration of the various meanings these ancient symbolic structures have had over the centuries. Generations have viewed them as symbols of a lost past, which in turn is often portrayed as a world full of romance and mystery. This verbal meaning has become associated with the structures through the tourism industry, where intrigue obviously boosts ticket sales. In fact, the Egyptian pyramids are so old that they were also drawing tourists even in ancient times. In antiquity, the Great Pyramid of Giza was listed as one of Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, and it is the only one still surviving today.
The age and structural integrity of the pyramids also make them symbols of longevity and power, which is only fitting because those are two purposes the ancient pharaohs who commissioned these works intended them to serve. For the pharaohs, the construction of these large monuments presented an opportunity for them to showcase their influence and become something to be remembered by, both in the society they ruled and in the annals of history that would follow. Even as new dynasties came and went, and even as Egypt was subjected to foreign domination and rulers from across the world, the pyramids have continued to stand as a prominent testament to ancient Egypt’s glorious past.

The last collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories contains some of the most dramatic moments of the entire Sherlock Holmes canon. "The Dying Detective" sees the great Holmes brought low by a fatal illness and refusing even Dr Watson's medical care. "The Bruce-Partington Plans" is a case of national importance, not least for the introduction of Mycroft Holmes. It also contains the quintessential Holmes line "whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.""The Devil's Foot" is what happens when the great sleuth and his doctor attempt to go on a restful holiday. "His Last Bow" is the last ever Sherlock Holmes story, about his war service and undercover spy experiences. These and other classic Holmes and Watson stories are here brought to life by a dramatic cast of voices, so sit back and let the mysteries unfold! Beginning with Donald Trump’s return to power and culminating in the White House’s bombastic claim of a historic ‘peace deal’, Drury exposes how Western governments, fully aware of Israel’s methods, deepened their political, military, and moral investment in a project of ethnic cleansing.

Opening amid the surreal theatre of Trump’s Knesset address and the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit, the audibobook dissects the spectacle, the personalities, and the power relations that excluded the oppressed while rewarding the oppressor. With his standard meticulous research, Drury traces how bombardment, starvation, prison brutality, and territorial expansion were not aberrations but strategy, enabled by Western arms, finance, and diplomatic cover.

He unpicks the Trump–Netanyahu alliance, the mythology of Iran, and the relentless colonisation of Gaza and the West Bank, showing how ‘peace’ was framed around Israel’s entitlements alone. Urgent, unsettling, and essential, Western Washed Genocide argues that without Western sponsorship, this catastrophe could neither have occurred nor continued – and that accountability can no longer be deferred.

Doing and evolving with a political theory becomes easier for the students when they are reading the concepts presented here, in this book. Social and political philosophies learning become easier for the students where the mainstream academic political philosophies, take lead in the normative issues, across the nations. Universal content is occasional, whereas MPP, or the mainstream political philosophy, is just mainly parochial. To take inspiration from the societies other than the west, can hardly bring in references to the local problems. It takes scant notice, of the major cross-cultural issues, to acquire a unique, inflection in the different cultures. Western philosophies hardly become role model for students to acquire gist. Further, the difficulties are compounded just because of the non-availability of any good political science journals today. The book is just motivated by a unique but unflappable drive, to cater to the needs of those deserving students that are yearning for a quality textbook in the subject of political theory. It is gradually becoming an Inter disciplinary concept for any students from the other departments to pay heed. Contributors include the editors, and the students. So, it is dedicated to all the students, editors and contributors of all the kind, to be an excellent teaching cause.
