Summary

Alexander Calder was a tall man who moved lightly and had the fingers of a surgeon, despite his big hands. Although he had a monk´s ability to concentrate, he loved celebrating with his friends. He was a genius, but not a bore, and his death in 1976 left a big gap for many people. His resounding laughter was silenced and those hands that never stood still would no longer form sculptures, but through thousands of turns of wire, he would continue to manifest his respect and joy for things. As long as the air is still moving and the sun is rising and setting to throw light and shadow onto our world, Alexander Calders sculptures will continue to change their appearance and show new views. When he died on November 11 of 1976, the 16,000 pieces he created would turn into transportable trust funds that would decorate both galleries and landscapes.

For practitioners and fans, jazz expresses the deepest meanings of life. Its rich history and its distinctive elements like improvisation and syncopation unite to create an unrepeatable and inexpressible aesthetic experience. But for others, jazz is an enigma. Might jazz be better appreciated and understood in relation to the Christian faith?
In this volume, theologian and jazz pianist William Edgar argues that the music of jazz cannot be properly understood apart from the Christian gospel, which like jazz moves from deep lament to inextinguishable joy. By tracing the development of jazz, placing it within the context of the African American experience, and exploring the work of jazz musicians like Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong, Edgar argues that jazz deeply resonates with the hope that is ultimately found in the good news of Jesus Christ.

    About the Expert
Manaal Javed has been painting in oils for more than four years. She puts her soul onto the canvas by playing with colors. She paints in a number of mediums, including acrylics and water paints. Oil painting is her favorite type of painting because an oil painting can be refined after it is completed. She critiques her work after completion and puts in the elements which she feels is incomplete in the painting. Hand and eye coordination makes her arrange all the elements in her painting beautifully and, of course, her imagination is like the cherry on top.She has always been a quiet person who does not let her feelings come out. For her, painting is a way to communicate with people.

Eileen Atkins discusses playing Viola in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, in this ebook taken from Shakespeare On Stage: Volume 2 - Twelve Leading Actors on Twelve Key Roles.
In each volume of the Shakespeare On Stage series, a leading actor takes us behind the scenes of a landmark Shakespearean production, recreating in detail their memorable performance in a major role. They leads us through the choices they made in rehearsal, and how the character works in performance, shedding new light on some of the most challenging roles in the canon. The result is a series of individual masterclasses that will be invaluable for other actors and directors, as well as students of Shakespeare; and fascinating for audiences of the plays.
In this volume, Eileen Atkins discusses playing the role of Viola in two productions of Twelfth Night seventeen years apart at the Old Vic Theatre in 1961, directed by Colin Graham; and in a Prospect Theatre Company production in 1978, again at the Old Vic Theatre, directed by Toby Robertson.
This interview, together with the others in the series (with actors such as Simon Russell Beale, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Harriet Walter), is also available in the collection Shakespeare On Stage: Volume 2 - Twelve Leading Actors on Twelve Key Roles by Julian Curry, with a foreword by Nicholas Hytner.

On 11/29/1992 at the end of a very successful sold out tour of the UK, Bill performed in London at the Dominion Theatre to a raucous, enthusiastic capacity crowd. This performance became his last recorded special, Revelations, which many consider to be Bill in peak form. When Revelations was originally broadcast on TV and subsequently released on DVD and LP the length of those was one hour and 13 minutes long, being edited to that more time-slot friendly length. But, the actual show that Bill performed that night was an epic, running just under two hours long. Now for the first time the entire audio of the show is being released as Bill performed it that night ......... All 43 missing minutes!!!!

Prescriptions for imaginative living in today’s noisy and ever-narrowing world

Our social conversation has gone awry. We have allowed the wrong people to lay claim to substantial amounts of social, political and economic power, leaving many of us to feel left out, left behind or left alone. We need to rethink what it means to listen, to think, to create and to be democratically engaged citizens. But how?

Fifteen Paths is a book of hope. Documenting a year of searching, a disillusioned business professor gave up on old arguments and set out to learn about the power of imagination with iconoclastic visionaries of dissonant rock, punk shamanism, ecstatic dance, poetic rap, fantastical comics, magical clowning and mystical channeling.

The men and women David Weitzner sought out shared life-altering thoughts.

Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth): a romantic spirit bolsters focus and spurs the quest for ideas; Nels Cline (Wilco): the trust of a wordless consensus is more life-affirming than winning an argument; Slava Polunin: rule-breaking unlocks untapped capacity for innovation; Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band): how to change the way we listen; Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe Sound System): what it means to trade fairly; Mike Doughty (Soul Coughing): the secret of creative entrepreneurs; Jill Cunniff (Luscious Jackson): the foundations of a more inclusive business model for creativity; Del the Funky Homosapien: why there is power in laughter; Angelo Moore (Fishbone): curiosity is inseparable from optimism; Mike Mignola (Hellboy): creative minds embrace fairy-tale logic; Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3): we have a responsibility to play in the spaces left open for us; Tzvi Freeman: there is spiritual power in surprising ourselves — and God; Dany Lyne: overcome trauma by connecting with elders; Lydia Lunch: we need to recreate ourselves to claim power in oppressive times.

Fifteen Paths concludes that there are no passive observers: this is an indispensable guide on how we can improve civic participation politically, expand inclusiveness in the world of economics, express our hopes and fears in the spiritual realm and build a shared culture of wisdom.
