Written to commemorate the centenary of Karl Marx's birth, Max Beer, an Austrian historian of the socialist and Marxist movements, presents a clear, detailed and highly accessible work: the first half comprises a biography, full of fascinating quotations and insightful observations whilst the second analyses many aspects of Marx's historical and economic teachings, with useful exemplars. Furthermore, Beer gives a comprehensive description of Hegel's dialectical method, vital to an understanding of Marxism, and explores Marx's attitudes to the 'Dictatorship of the Proletariat' and Bolshevism in action. The Life and Teaching of Karl Marx was translated by T.C. Partington and H.J. Stenning. It is read by Greg Wagland.

When he was a child, Chris Helme's relatives often asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. His response was always the same - a policeman. Growing up in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, in the 1950s, he was brought up with a strong sense of community spirit and deep respect for the local policeman; this fostered his lifelong ambition of becoming a police officer in his home town.
All in a Day's Work recounts Chris Helme's journey to achieving his dream. It was no easy ride; however, the hard work paid off and he was eventually accepted into Leeds City Police. After a turbulent year's service in Leeds, Chris resigned, but he would join Bradford City Police a year later; he continued to experience dramatic incidents and encounter extraordinary people. In 1975, as a member of the West Yorkshire Metropolitan Police and then later renamed as the West Yorkshire Police, PC Helme's dream came true - he was appointed as the policeman not just for his home town, but for the same housing estates he grew up on.
Chris was eventually awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to the community, and this book chronicles that service. As a record of one man's endeavour to succeed. All in a Day's Work is a heart-warming, poignant, and hilarious memoir.

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American innovator, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist who helped establish the contemporary rotating present (AC) electrical energy delivery system.
Tesla, who was born and raised in the Austrian Empire, studied engineering and physics without getting a grade in the 1870s and acquired useful experience in the early 1880s operating in telephone and at Continental Edison in the nascent electrical power business. He relocated to the USA in the year 1884 and ended up being a naturalized person. Before setting out on his own, he worked for a brief time at the Edison Device Works in N.Y. City. Tesla developed labs and business in New York to develop a range of electrical and mechanical gadgets with the support of partners to fund and promote his ideas. His rotating present (AC) induction motor and associated polyphase AC developments were accredited by Westinghouse Electric in the year 1888 and were the foundation of the polyphase system that firm consequently advertised.

The late Bryce Courtenay said of David and John's book: "True insight into the psychology of a sect both from the inside and the out is very rare. This account by two brothers is illuminating, fascinating and intelligent." The true story of a dangerous religious cult. David was involved with the group from his late teenage years and didn't leave until his early 40's. Called Zion Full Salvation Ministry, it began as part of an Anglican Church in Sydney. Founded by a woman who claimed to have Christ's stigmata and then to be the embodiment of God on earth. When the woman died 16 years later, most of her followers had been stripped of finances, investments, and in many cases their self-esteem too. My Brother's Eyes is a troubling story but has a happy ending as it tells the story of the separation of the brothers, their families, and their eventual reunion. The title My Brother's Eyes refers to the eyes being a reflection of the person. A biblical reference claims the eyes are "the windows of the soul".. Yet the eyes change as life changes for us. In sadness and grief,. In joy.. In love. And more our eyes change when we choose a path that leads us away from those we love and changes yet again when we regain a path back.
The cover was designed by David's best friend in his last years of High School, John Byrne. John Byrne and David were also estranged for many of those as David calls them "strange years". David's family hate the image that John Byrne created in a painting entered for Sydney's famous Archibald Exhibition. Yet David sees truth in the eyes of the dark image.
David and his older brother John narrate My Brother's Eyes, which was first published in print form in November 2009 by John Garratt Publishing who have now returned all rights to the authors.
Thanks to Cath Connelly for her song Journey, and to Jordan Parry and Jack Ringland for audio editing, and special thanks to Dave Walker Productions.
