Sinopsis

In "Greatest Wonders of the World, as Seen and Described by Famous Writers," readers embark on an extraordinary literary journey that intertwines geography and imagination. This anthology showcases evocative prose and enchanting poetry from a selection of renowned authors who have each grappled with the awe-inspiring beauty of the world's most iconic sites. Crafted in rich, descriptive styles, the pieces reveal not just the physical grandeur of these wonders—such as the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Wall of China, and Machu Picchu—but also their cultural, historical, and emotional resonance, set against the backdrop of the writers' unique experiences and times. This book embodies a confluence of literary tradition and travel writing, designed to awaken the wanderer's spirit in every reader. The compilation is the brainchild of various authors, whose diverse backgrounds and perspectives lend a deeply human touch to the text. From the romantic musings of the 19th-century romantics to the incisive observations of modern essayists, each writer's thoughtful engagement with these global landmarks reflects broader themes of discovery and transcendence. Their collective experiences echo the timeless allure of exploration and the impulse to capture such moments through the art of words. This anthology is an essential read for those fascinated by the interplay of literature and travel, and it serves both as a source of inspiration and a roadmap for future explorers. Whether you are an avid traveler, a lover of literature, or simply curious about the wonders of our world, this book invites you to share in the beauty and majesty that has captivated thinkers and dreamers throughout the ages.

Having Seaman Jenna as the mascot on the USS Vandegrift was never meant to be a statement or symbolic act, or to put the crew on the radars of four-star admirals. Jenna came aboard unannounced, a Christmas gift that brought instant joy to the crew and transformed a gray ship into a home for 225 sailors. Her addition was not pre-approved by the chain of command—contrary to military protocol. Before long, Jenna became a phenomenon—the only dog on a Navy ship since World War II—despite the best efforts to keep her from the public eye. This orphaned Shiba Inu and the displaced crew shared countless adventures and trials during her five years on board. Jenna dodged being eaten in Korea (a country that still views dogs as edible fare), sidestepped Hawaii's strict quarantine law, avoided threats of being shot in Australia, charmed a Chinese admiral, and nearly initiated an international incident in Pakistan. Jenna became a symbol of the ship and of free will, and created a bond amongst the crew that remains strong decades later . . . long after her death. Neal Kusumoto is proud to say that he was the captain of that fine ship, blessed with a magnificent crew that included one special sea dog. Join Seaman Jenna as a part of the crew on her five-year adventure on the high seas.

On May 31, 1988, at the request of General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev, and standing below a bust of Lenin, Reagan spoke to and answered questions from a large audience of students and teachers at Moscow State University.
Reagan says “I wish you success” in Russian to the students on their upcoming exams. Reagan brings “a message of peace and good will and hope for a growing friendship and closeness between our two peoples.”
An information revolution is sweeping the globe that will transform our lives with robots, genetic coding, spacecraft, and other technologies. The key to progress is economic freedom. Entrepreneurs with the courage to take risks “are responsible for almost all the economic growth in the United States.”
The Republic of Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, India, and China are seeing the power of economic freedom. Freedom “is the continuing revolution of the marketplace.”
Nations “must renounce, once and for all, the right to an expansionist foreign policy.” “People do not make wars; governments do.” “Americans seek always to make friends of old antagonists”, for example, Britain, Germany, and Japan.
Nothing would please me more than to see “a growing, exuberant, exporting Soviet Union that had opened up to economic freedom”. In this Moscow spring of May 1988, we hope for a new world of reconciliation, freedom, and peace.
Following the speech, Reagan fields questions from the audience on a variety of topics: the START ballistic missile treaty, how young people have changed since he was a student, conflicts in Namibia and Nicaragua, the return of missing Soviet soldiers from Afghanistan, what’s unique about the U.S. Constitution, Reagan’s speaking plan on the mashed-potato circuit after retiring, American Indians, and Soviet dissidents.
