Sinopsis

Arden of Feversham presents a gripping exploration of domestic tragedy, attributed to various playwrights, likely echoing the collaborative nature of Elizabethan drama. The play unfolds in a narrative steeped in darkness, centering on betrayal, jealousy, and murder, as it follows the doomed marriage of Arden and his unfaithful wife, Alice. Characterized by its raw emotional depth and vivid dialogue, the work serves as an early example of the domestic tragedy genre, challenging the ideals of love and fidelity while exposing the fragility of human relationships in a society grappling with moral ambiguity. While the true authorship remains debated, Arden of Feversham reflects the volatile social landscape of late 16th-century England, impacted by personal and political upheavals. Its focus on intimate domestic spaces contrasts sharply with the grand historical narratives of the time, offering an introspective look at individual lives. This thematic preoccupation mirrors contemporary anxieties about honor and betrayal, likely resonating with audiences who sought to critique the society around them. Recommended for both scholars and general readers, Arden of Feversham invites a profound reflection on the darker aspects of human nature and relationships. Its rich characterization and emotional complexity provide fertile ground for discussion, making it an essential read for those interested in the evolution of English drama and the human condition.

Peter Raynard's Manland is a bold, brilliant and outspoken new collection of poems that scrutinise men and manhood, mental health, working class lives and disability. Aloud and alive with music, wit, anger and rebellion, this is an accomplished, politically-aware and vital book.
Raynard is a skilled observer, and these razor-sharp poems document parenthood through the lens of a stay-at-home dad, attempt to tell the truth about men and depression, study our cultural, social and medical relationships with drugs and drug-taking, and lay bare the realities of life at the sharpest edges of society. By turns frank, painful and bleakly funny, this humane and brilliant book encompasses pride and prejudices, the bonds between lads and dads, the toxic pressures of masculinity and the way illness and poverty irrevocably shape lives.

In early 2019, when playwright Kirk Wood Bromley was diagnosed with cancer, his fans and collaborators came together to fund and record three of his plays, one of which was Icarus and Aria, an "upgraded Romeo and Juliet" that was originally performed under the dramatory of Aaron Beall at the first NY International Fringe Festival in 1997. This full cast performance was directed by Joshua Spafford and recorded by Kevin Blackler.
By riffing off its source, Icarus and Aria is thrillingly situated in the present. Icarus Alzaro is a rookie football star just signed to a high profile contract with the Arizona Aztechs. Jimmy Jones, the Aztechs owner, has a daughter named Aria. The two meet at a party to celebrate Icarus's joining the team, fall in love, and run away to the Superstition Mountains. By morning, their disappearance is a media storm. The two young lovers are eventually brought down by the inexorable forces that surround them. The play includes a cast of characters ranging from Dina, Aria's smart-mouthed best friend, and Primalo, Icarus's brother and head of El Imaginero, a crime ring linked to drug-dealing and a spate of murders, to the Channel One News Team, Aria's spunky stepmom Cindy, her trigger-happy brother Jimmy Junior, Medicine Woman, officers Barcaiolo and Junkfood, and more. Full cast info is at inversetheater.org
The world's foremost living verse playwright, Bromley has been compared to Shakespeare and Stoppard, is a member of New Dramatists, and was declared "the verse play champion" by Michael Feingold (Village Voice) in 2005. Bromley and Inverse have won numerous awards, including Best Downtown Theater Company (NY Press 2001), The Berrilla Kerr Foundation Playwriting Award (2001), Best Music/Lyrics (NY Int’l Fringe Festival 2002), Excellence in Playwriting (NY Int’l Fringe Festival 2003), the first Caffe Cino Award (NY Innovative Theater Awards 2005), and Outstanding Solo Show (NY Int’l Fringe Festival 2009).

Featuring new translations of previously untranslated Chinese short stories, Memorandum maps out seven decades of Sinophone Singaporean Literature. From bargirls to student activists, from trishaw men to tea merchants, this collection provides a glimpse into a world that has been previously invisible to Anglophone readers. Paired with critical essays, these stories showcase the richness and diversity of Singapore’s Chinese community, but also its inherent interconnectedness with other cultures within Singapore.

“Memorandum is a pathbreaking anthology that refracts over half a century of Singapore’s history through its lens. The translated stories do much more than simply bridge Sinophone and Anglophone worlds: they actively cross geographical, cultural, linguistic and class boundaries, causing us to think more deeply about the nature of social power, and the transformative interventions literary texts can make.”

What happens to identity when we're obsessed with self-surveillance and devalued words? Now that we've sold ourselves to ourselves, shuffling letters and sounds around to hide the pain, how do we represent the uncanny valley in which we've set up shop? In Cursed Objects, Jason Christie recoils in horror at the thoroughness of his self, then begins to write toward a new understanding brokered between all the things that define him and who he thinks he should be and interrogates how we reduce people to words, especially online, turning them into objects.
