Sinopsis

The "Sketchbook of the Philadelphia & Boston Face Brick Co" is a fascinating collection of architectural sketches, designs, and technical illustrations that reveal the intricacies of face brick design during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The book serves as both a historical document and a functional guide to brick manufacturing techniques, showcasing a rich tapestry of styles and aesthetic sensibilities prevalent at the time. The illustrations are meticulously detailed, reflecting a blend of artistic endeavor and industrial precision that underscores the burgeoning relationship between art and architecture in an era marked by rapid urban expansion. The authors, a consortium of designers, architects, and engineers affiliated with the Philadelphia & Boston Face Brick Company, were likely influenced by the architectural movements of their day, such as Romanesque Revival and later movements that embraced ornamental craftsmanship. Their collective expertise in materials science and design principles culminates in a work that not only serves as a catalog for the company'Äôs offerings but also encapsulates a significant moment in America's architectural narrative, responding to the evolving tastes of a changing society. This book is an essential read for historians, architects, and enthusiasts of brickwork, offering insight into the context of design and the practical applications of face brick. Its combination of artistic sketches and technical details makes it an invaluable resource for understanding the role of masonry in American architecture. Whether you're an architect looking for inspiration or a historian seeking to understand the material culture of urban centers, this carefully curated sketchbook will enrich your perspective.

Of all the great actors of the 20th century, none personifies acting royalty more than Laurence Olivier, and some of this is simply due to the fact that he was actually knighted in 1947, along with a lengthy list of other honors that include being named a life peer in 1970 and admission to the Order of Merit in 1984. To speak of The Right Honourable Lord Laurence Olivier is not a figure of speech but rather a fact. Of course, in addition to the literal sense of the term, there is undeniably a manner in which Laurence Olivier qualifies as acting royalty, as it is not for nothing that Spencer Tracy once referred to Olivier as “the greatest actor in the English-speaking world” (Bacall). It is also important to note that Tracy refers to Olivier not as a film or theater actor specifically, because much of Olivier’s lofty standing derives from his ability to successfully navigate different mediums like stage, film, and television. The breadth of mediums in which he worked, the various roles he inhabited within them (actor, producer, director), and the formidable time span of his career lend Olivier’s career a scope of perhaps unmatched magnitude.
In the 1960s, the most popular actor in the world was Richard Burton, a hard-drinking Welshman who was nevertheless so professional that he was one of the preeminent stage performers of his day. In fact, he performed Shakespeare so magnificently that he was compared to British legend Laurence Olivier, and that success ultimately led to a film career that earned him 7 Academy Award nominations, as well as BAFTA and Golden Globe awards for Best Actor. Given his accomplishments on the stage and in Hollywood, Burton became one of the world’s most recognizable leading men, so it seemed fitting that he engaged in one of Hollywood’s most legendary romances with Elizabeth Taylor.

This text deals fundamentally with design and architecture: the route of spatial recognition, which is the least known —or worked on— within the approaches of the autism spectrum given its difficulty in being synthesized in a paradigm or normative set. The objective is to create a framework to approach the design of environments and buildings, in order to facilitate spatial development in everyday life and, especially, in learning situations.
The spatial route, which is the project, creates:
    - A set of spatial coordinates that liberates the user from the anguish of not recognizing, of not understanding the space in which he is developing. And that offer him the possibility of finding the way, directing him to where he needs or wants to go.
    - Structure of the exterior and interior, with their corresponding activities placed in a comprenssible way through concepts of organization: functional and sensorial sequence of events. And creation of spaces for group and individual tasks, paying special attention to places of transition and recovery between opposite or different activities, both physical and emotional.
    - The aspects that are developed in terms of recommendations are synthesized in a construct that brings together the aspects of general, functional, formal and sensory organization of plans, elevations and details. Achieving with these “person-space” adjustments a higher quality of personal life and of its affective and learning environment.
    - Design components that in the case of autism should be considered in order to seek with the project greater facility of understanding, use and space-emotional development of people from childhood to adult life.
