Harry is a shy, bullied little dog. In a dream, he meets some friendly animals who teach him useful bully-blocking skills. Mia the meerkat tells him the best ways to respond to bullying; Ollie the owl emphasises eye contact; Gerry the giraffe explains the importance of good posture; and so on.Harry puts these new skills into practice: they work immediately, and his life is transformed. In learning how to block bullies and make new friends - skills he can use all his life - Harry has shed his fear, and now enjoys being with his peers. This small book will empower 8+ year-old children to learn how to block bullies. It is based on the therapy model Evelyn developed to train psychologists, and on years of teaching bullied children how to manage their basic survival instinct. It is effective and empowering: even young children understand the concept of keeping their power, or giving it away and making the bully happy. Harry's story is written in the form of a poem - in rhyming four-line stanzas - to help children remember the words, which are meaningful and therapeutic.

Bestselling author Erich Fromm revisits Sigmund Freud’s work, ushering psychoanalysis into the modern ageIn The Revision of Psychoanalysis, renowned psychoanalyst and social psychologist Erich Fromm applies his innovative, humanist approach to Freud’s often contradictory ideas. Fromm pays special attention to the fact that human beings’ main problem has been the way they are related to the outer world, to others, and to themselves. Human passions and their effects have to be explained differently than Freud did, and psychoanalysis must be revised to accommodate this—a fact Fromm explains in his typically brilliant way. The result is a comprehensive, updated look at psychoanalysis and humanistic thinking that is as relevant today as when it was first written. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Erich Fromm including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the author’s estate.

And in Head Strong, Asprey covers everything from nutrition to environmental factors like light, air and temperature. He also goes into lifestyle elements like sleep, meditation and exercise. And if that weren’t enough, he also tackles common impediments to clear thinking, and touches on some exciting new discoveries that could further boost our mental capacities. More fundamentally, he explains that brain power and emotional poise are not predetermined characteristics. These things can be improved upon, regardless of age. Here’s what you’ll learn about in this summary:–Which foods to add to your diet and which ones to avoid to help your brain’s performance.–What changes to make to your environment and habits, specifically when it comes to light, air and temperature.–What benefits exercise, meditation and sleep provide and how to take advantage of them.-And much, much more...

Empire of Laws An - Legal...

For many years, Britain tried to impose its own laws on the peoples it conquered, and English common law usually followed the Union Jack. But the common law became less common after Britain emerged from the Seven Years' War as the world's most powerful empire. At that point, imperial policymakers adopted a strategy of legal pluralism: some colonies remained under English law, while others retained much of their previous legal regimes. As legal historian Christian R. Burset argues, determining how much English law a colony received depended on what kind of colony Britain wanted to create. Policymakers thought English law could turn any territory into an anglicized, commercial colony; legal pluralism, in contrast, would ensure a colony's economic and political subordination. Britain's turn to legal pluralism thus reflected the victory of a new vision of empire—authoritarian, extractive, and tolerant—over more assimilationist and egalitarian alternatives. Among other implications, this helps explain American colonists' reverence for the common law: it expressed and preserved their equal status in the empire. This book, the first empire-wide overview of law as an instrument of policy in the eighteenth-century British Empire, offers an imaginative rethinking of the relationship between tolerance and empire.
