Organizations are becoming more fluid and chaotic than ever before. Many leaders face deeply destabilizing experiences at a younger age than in the past. Popular writing on leadership transitions assumes that leaders are simply instruments of the business, and that the task of transitioning into a new role is primarily a task of becoming an even more useful instrument. Leadership Transition is the first attempt to bring lessons from post-trauma growth research into the realm of leadership development. The book is for leaders who are undergoing significant transitions in their work, either because they’ve been promoted to new positions or because their organizations are changing in important ways. It is a guide to help these leaders use uncomfortable and sometimes involuntary disruptions in their work to re-examine their leadership, to explore their values, think creatively about the difference they want to make, and, ultimately, to grow.

    Sentient Strategy - How to...

No pre-pandemic strategy is effective anymore. Alan Weiss has developed an original, new approach to strategy which thus far has certified over 100 people globally, delivering this approach to scores of firms of all types in four countries.

Sentient Strategy is based on two modern dimensions: awareness of the environment in which the organization exists and has influence, and consciousness of the impact of actions being considered. The old SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) approaches are currently equivalent to riding down the freeway on a horse. We must drop the hubris that has led us to believe we can see years ahead and anticipate what's coming.

It's time to turn volatility and disruption on their heads and use them as offensive weapons in the marketplace instead of trying to protect ourselves from them. Imagine a strategy that an organization can formulate in just a day or so, revisit easily and frequently, and design a series of shorter-term, viable futures.

Alan Weiss equips the listener to consider using this approach independently. These are new times—a new reality, a "no normal"—hence, it's ridiculous to use old approaches to strategy. There's a clear reason why Sears didn't morph into Amazon and why Hertz surrendered its number one spot to Enterprise.

    Applying The Tao of Human...

This is an introduction to The Tao of Human Interactions.
I decided to write this book because of the need for an effective system of managing and enhancing people's ability to communicate. Its applications span business as well as personal interactions. It can be a simple way of assessing the personalities of people around you and enabling you to better interact with them. I've played the role of an employee in middle management as well as upper management. One essential skill for any good manager is communication. It is important to be able to assess the people you are managing and also to be able to effectively deliver the correct messages. It is not only important to deliver the ideas, but it also needs to be done in a way that impacts the audience correctly. An effective manager must also assess and manage the emotional states of the people involved. I have spent a good part of my life working as an employee and in upper management and middle management. I have also consulted management for many different types of organizations in the public as well as the private sector. I have worked in specific industries such as transit, technology, public works, city government, the military, and hospitality. My approach has always been to try to create effective modes of interaction and communication between employees and middle management, as well as between management and upper management.
This book is concerned mostly with daily interactions at the employee level. The system and skills taught can be applied to any interaction in the business and personal life. Management systems are often well thought out and well structured, but quite often, they do not lend themselves to the chaotic, on-the-spot timber of human interactions. The Tao of Human Communications is a system rooted in present-moment fluid interactions. For global and Africa-based companies looking to access new growth markets, Africa offers exciting opportunities to build large, profitable businesses. Its population is young, fast-growing, and increasingly urbanized—while rapid technology adoption makes the continent a fertile arena for innovation. Brimming with company case studies and exclusive interviews with some of Africa's most prominent executives, this book comes to life with the vibrant stories of those who have navigated the many twists and turns on the road to building successful businesses on the continent.
