Summary

New drilling techniques for oil and natural gas are propelling an energy production renaissance in the United States. As the US economy struggles to emerge from the Great Recession, many see the boom as a possible source of economic salvation that could reduce unemployment and revitalize American manufacturing. Until now, however, there has been little objective analysis of the energy boom's economic consequences. In this major study, Trevor Houser and Shashank Mohan fill that gap. They assess the impact of the recent and projected increase in domestic energy production on US GDP, employment growth, manufacturing competitiveness, household expenditures, and international trade balance. Alongside its economic impact, the American energy revolution is raising new environmental and trade policy questions. What are the consequences for the environment and global warming of increased domestic oil and gas production? Should companies be allowed to export the energy they produce or will doing so undermine American manufacturing competitiveness? Houser and Mohan provide independent research and analysis that will help policymakers navigate these issues.

“This book will inspire calm, clarity, and pure business sanity . . . for absolutely every worried, exhausted and beautiful entrepreneur that you know” (Tama Kieves, bestselling author of Inspired & Unstoppable).   Entrepreneurs are smart, confident, good at what they do, and help their clients get amazing results. Oftentimes they are busy, stressed, and overwhelmed which holds them back from the success and the difference they really want to make. Traditional time-management approaches encourage entrepreneurs to speed up, fit more in, and be more efficient—so they can cross everything off their to-do list. However, they don’t stop to consider that maybe they shouldn’t be trying to do everything on their to-do list in the first place.   When you’re overwhelmed or too busy, focusing on getting more done isn’t the answer. So what is the answer? In My Desk is Driving Me Crazy you’ll discover how to easily sort through what is important and what isn’t—and let the unimportant things go—so you can put your energy on what truly matters to you instead, with ease and clarity.   “A generous work of inspiration . . . Shows us how to find and follow our own kind of simplicity out of the chaos we create. This funny, friendly, smart book is not just about your desk . . . it’s about clearing your head in anything you do.” —Barbara Sher, New York Times–bestselling author of It’s Only Too Late If You Don’t Start Now   “An enjoyable and accessible guide to clearing the inner and outer clutter that gets in the way of the life for which you’re longing.” —Kimberly Schneider, M.Ed., JD, LPC, author of Everything You Need Is Right Here

Paul Collier is a faculty in Economics and presently working in the capacity of Director of Oxford University's Center for the Study of African Economies and also he was previously the Director of the World Bank Development Research. He is the creator of many distinguished books to his credit viz., Wars, Guns and Votes: Democracy in Dangerous Places and also authored the award-winning book, The Bottom Billion.
Wide new rifts are breaking apart Britain's structural framework and other developed nations as well. There is always a tug of war between industrialized cities versus colonies, highly skilled privileged versus less qualified, affluent versus the developing world. As these differences worsen, a good many people have succumbed to others the sense of ethical commitment that was essential to the growth of social emancipation in the comment-war era.
To date, only the revivalist philosophies of nationalism and communism have reacted to these rifts, contributing to Brexit and Trump's seismic outbursts, as well as the rise of the far rights in the developed country like Germany. We have heard a lot of criticism of capitalism, however until now no individual has placed a practical way of fixing it.
