Sinopse

Two natural disasters. Two young men worlds apart seeking their pathways in life, and their unlikely intersection.
When Buffalo, NY, language teacher Bryant Simmons goes online looking for a chat buddy, he stumbles onto a post by the young Moroccan Issam LeBeau, desperate to find a man to rescue him from the strict and conservative culture of his country. While Bryant has little interest in corresponding with Issam, he warns him about the dangers of having a post of this kind in his city of Marrakech. Issam agrees to remove it only if Bryant continues talking to him. And so ensues an extended discussion of lifestyles and cultural differences, the two men becoming ever closer.
In spite of Issam's prodding, Bryant isn't sure how far he wants to take the exchange beyond a friendship, at times feeling trapped by the demands of the young man. But fate takes the upper hand, drawing the two closer as one faces death in a freezing blizzard, the other in a terrible earthquake.

In a small Michigan town, in the late 1950s, the widow Etta Klein—wealthy and Jewish—has for more than thirty years relied for aid, comfort, and companionship on her Black housekeeper Harriet Gibbs. Between "Aunt Harry" and Etta, a relationship has developed that is closer than a friendship, yet not quite a marriage. They are inseparable, at once absurdly unequal and defined by a comic codependence.

Forever mourning the early death of her favorite son, Sargent, Etta has all but adopted Aunt Harry's nephew, the precocious, gay seventeen-year-old Oliver, who has been raised by both women. Oliver is facing down his departure to college—and fending off the advances of Etta's cook, Nella Mae—when the household is disrupted by the arrival of a self-proclaimed "warlock," one Maurice LeFleur, who has convinced Etta and Harry that he might be able to contact Sargent in the afterlife . . .

Ladies of the Rachmaninoff Eyes was the debut of the extraordinary Henry Van Dyke, whose witty and outrageous novels look back to the sparkling, elaborate comedies of Ronald Firbank and forward to postmodern burlesques like Fran Ross's Oreo.

    Contains mature themes.

Companion story to A Demon in Midwinter
Kris Starr, legendary former front man of iconic rock band Starrlight, and Justin Moore, the infamous New York Demon and Kris's former manager, don't agree to be interviewed very often. Today they have -- two years after the dramatic events that led to Justin's public outing as a demon, a story which forever entwined with Kris Starr's return to the spotlight, a brand-new critically acclaimed and commercially successful solo album, and on-air declarations of love.
On the heels of their return from a triumphant sold-out tour, they've agreed to sit down, get coffee, and talk to the world. About the album, about family, about pro-demon activism and new jobs and ex-boyfriends and dealing with the past. Along the way, they'll cover new record labels, babysitting, classic rock inspiration, the rescuing of cats, and coffee versus tea ... and maybe a few topics they've never gone on record discussing.
Like what exactly happened to Justin that night two years ago, and how a demon and a rock star manage to cope with both nightmares and daydreams coming true. And, of course, the importance of love songs.
