Sinopse

Villages are full of tales: some are forgotten while others become a part of local folklore. But the fortunes of one West Country village are watched over and irreversibly etched into history as an omniscient, somewhat crabby, presence keeps track of village life.
In the late sixties a Californian musician blows through Underhill and writes a set of haunting folk songs that will earn him a cult following. Two decades later, some teenagers disturb a body on the local golf course. In 2019, a pair of lodgers discover a one-eyed rag doll hidden in the walls of their crumbling home. Connections are forged and broken across generations, but only the landscape itself can link them together. A landscape threatened by property development and speckled by the pylons whose feet have been buried across the moor.
Tom Cox's masterful debut novel synthesises his passion for music, nature and folklore into a psychedelic and enthralling exploration of village life and the countryside that sustains it.

"The Transition of Juan Romero" is a short story by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft, written on September 16, 1919, and first published in the 1944 Arkham House volume Marginalia.
Plot: The story involves a mine that uncovers a very deep chasm, too deep for any sounding lines to hit bottom. The night after the discovery of the abyss the narrator and one of the mine's workers, a Mexican called Juan Romero, venture inside the mine, drawn against their will by a mysterious rhythmical throbbing in the ground. Romero reaches the abyss first and is swallowed by it. The narrator peers over the edge, sees something - "but God, I dare not tell you what I saw!" and loses consciousness. That morning he and Romero are both found in their bunks, Romero dead. Other miners swear that neither of them left their cabin that night. The chasm has vanished as well.

Step into a delightful story where cutting-edge science meets the heart’s deepest yearnings. In The Soulmate Equation by the author, a pragmatic single mother unexpectedly becomes the face of a DNA-based matchmaking service—and discovers that the numbers on paper may lead her toward a connection she never thought possible. Between comedic mishaps, high-stakes media attention, and the unspoken tension of a partnership that defies logic, she must decide whether to trust the data—or trust her own intuition.

Perfect for listeners seeking a blend of witty banter, romantic chemistry, and inspiring self-discovery, this audiobook reminds us that true success—and genuine love—often require both analytical savvy and the courage to embrace the unpredictable. When formula and feeling collide, the most extraordinary possibilities can arise.
