Sinopse

"The masterful art of chess, Kung-fu sword play, and the sweet science of boxing are all hip-hop expressions that connect us universally. Beatboxing tells the story. It's razor sharp."—Masta Killa, Wu-Tang Clan“I love how Todd Snyder's brain works. Like him, I love hip hop, and I love boxing. But I've never seen someone tie them together so well, detailing their shared history, the way each impacted the other and the personalities involved. Beatboxing is written with such tethering, with that kind of impact and insight. It might be my favorite sports book—since the last one Snyder wrote.” —Greg Bishop, Sports Illustrated

Step into a world of rap moguls turned fight promoters, boxers turned rappers, and rappers turned boxers. From Mike Tyson to Tupac, from Roy Jones Jr. to J Prince, explore how a cultural collision forever altered the relationship between music, race, sports, and politics.Daryl McDonald of Run-DMC once said that the rhyme Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee! The hands can’t hit what the eyes can’t see! was hip-hop’s most famous lyric. Muhammad Ali’s poetic brilliance and swagger—ignited by hype man Bundini Brown—gave hip-hop artists the template from which they forged their identities and performed their art. Hip-hop’s impact on boxing, on the other hand, has not been explored. Until now. In Beatboxing, Todd Snyder uncovers the unique connection between hip-hop and the sweet science, tracing a grassroots cultural movement from its origins in the South Bronx to its explosion across the globe and ultimately into the charged environment of the prize ring. Featuring interviews with champion fighters and music legends, this is the definitive book about an enduring phenomenon and is a must-read for boxing and hip-hop fans alike.

The Satavahana Empire, one of the earliest and most influential dynasties in ancient India, emerged in the Deccan region after the decline of the Mauryan Empire. The origins of the Satavahanas remain a subject of historical debate, but they are believed to have belonged to the Andhra region, gaining prominence as local chieftains before consolidating their rule into a powerful dynasty. Their rise marked a significant transition in Indian history, bridging the gap between the Mauryan administration and later regional powers.
The early history of the Satavahanas is primarily reconstructed through inscriptions, numismatic evidence, and references in ancient texts. The Puranas mention them as the Andhra dynasty, while inscriptions such as the Naneghat and Nasik inscriptions provide valuable insights into their rulers and governance. The first known ruler of the dynasty, Simuka, is credited with establishing Satavahana rule by overthrowing remnants of Mauryan authority in the Deccan and expanding his control over parts of present-day Maharashtra, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. His successors continued to strengthen the empire, laying the foundation for centuries of Satavahana dominance.
Following Simuka, his brother and successor Krishna further expanded the territory, but it was under the reign of Satakarni I that the empire gained considerable power. Satakarni I led successful military campaigns, extending his influence northward to the Narmada region and challenging the Shunga and Kshatrapa rulers. His achievements were commemorated in inscriptions and coins, some of which depict him performing Vedic sacrifices such as the Ashvamedha, indicating his aspirations for imperial legitimacy. This period also saw the Satavahanas emerging as key players in trade, administration, and culture, integrating diverse communities into their governance system.

Hi, fellow music lover! Congratulations on starting your music-making journey.
Ear training is one of the most rewarding skills you can develop, and it’s one that you can work on every day. Which makes total sense: music is an aural experience, after all. Ear training helps you turn the music you hear into music you make on your piano. This works for your own musical ideas, too: when you dream up a great riff or chord progression, you naturally want to sit down and play it right away. Ear training helps you do just that.
This lesson is broken into several chapters. The first part focuses on chord identification exercises, starting with grouped chords and ending with all chords mixed up. The second part of the book focuses on extremely valuable exercises with the help of a drone. The third part brings you very close to a real-life situation. Short chord progressions played by either a full band or a solo piano put your ears to the final test.
Best of all, this lesson doesn’t limit itself to dry theory: after a brief introduction to every concept, we completely focus on listening exercises to sharpen your ear.
Oh, and before I forget, the most important tip of all: have fun!

Richard Neutra, an iconic figure of architectural modernity, particularly well-known for his glamourous California houses, had another less visible facet: his concern for social architecture. This book presents Neutra's interest in and contacts with Latin America, paying particular attention to his designs for schools and hospitals in Puerto Rico. The author explores Neutra's connections with Latin American architects through his travels and the importance of his publications in the region. More importantly, she examines the impact these contacts had on Neutra and his later built work in the United States.
The research is based on archival documents and the book includes transcripts of talks and interviews Neutra gave in Rio de Janeiro, Caracas, Lima and Mexico City.
