““What is a ‘Bummel’?” said George. “How would you translate it?”
“A ‘Bummel’,” I explained, “I should describe as a journey, long or short, without an end; the only thing regulating it being the necessity of getting back within a given time to the point from which one started.””
Written in 1900, Jerome. K. Jerome’s sequel to his successful “Three Men in a Boat” (1889) retains his same three men; Harris, George, and himself. They are now older, if not always wiser, and decide to embark on a bicycle tour of the Black Forest and its surrounding areas.
Perhaps it is something of the late Victorian Gentleman’s attitude to “foreign parts” that give this sequel a somewhat less frivolous tone than the generally jolly one of three men boating on the familiar Thames. Indeed, the description of the popular practise of German Student duelling (“The Mensur”) is decidedly graphic. Yet despite a less cohesive narrative there are still many equally funny incidents, told with Jerome’s characteristic self-deprecating style. Not least, dear Uncle Podger makes a welcome return as he tries his futile best to leave the house on time for work.

“Alexander spins pure fun in the first full-length installment of her Victorian-era Lady Travelers Guide series . . . Readers will savor every page.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)   Really, it’s too much to expect any normal man to behave like a staid accountant in order to inherit the fortune he deserves to support the lifestyle of an earl. So when Derek Saunders’s favorite elderly aunt and her ill-conceived—and possibly fraudulent—Lady Travelers Society loses one of their members, what’s a man to do but step up to the challenge? Now he’s escorting the world’s most maddening woman to the world’s most romantic city to find her missing relative.   While India Prendergast only suspects his organization defrauds gullible travelers, she’s certain a man with as scandalous a reputation as Derek Saunders cannot be trusted any farther than the distance around his very broad shoulders. As she struggles not to be distracted by his wicked smile and the allure of Paris, instead of finding a lost lady traveler, India just may lose her head, her luggage and her heart.  “A delightfully humorous romantic adventure. Alexander enhances the missing person’s mystery with wonderful descriptions of London and Paris, but best of all is her cast of characters: three charming elderly ladies, two companions, an independent spinster and a swoon-worthy hero. Add to this several laugh-out-loud escapades and a surprising ending, and you have the fun read of the season!” —RT Book Reviews (4 stars)  “A brilliant and charming tale.” —Fresh Fiction

Happy to be Here is Berg's third collection of Facebook posts. Her first, Make Someone Happy, was written in response to her many fans' requests that she put her posts together in a book that they could take on the plane, to the beach, or give to others. The book did indeed make people happy and so she followed up with a second book, Still Happy. Her fans encouraged her to write still another one. The "Happy" books exemplify, as the Boston Globe wrote, Berg's "ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, the remarkable in the everyday."
