In this landmark collection, William T. Vollmann offers a kaleidoscopic retrospective of the visual artwork he has produced over four decades, with new commentary from Vollmann on his process, inspiration, and the many intersections with his writing. The celebrated author of over twenty-five books (among them the National Book Award–winning novel Europe Central; the seven-volume Rising Up and Rising Down, based on Vollmann's career as a war correspondent; and the two-volume climate change investigation Carbon Ideologies), Vollmann's equally ambitious and prolific career as a photographer, printmaker, and painter reflects the artist's deep interest in people existing on the margins, a profound empathy for his subjects, and the humility and generosity to meet them on their terms. In Shadows of Love, Shadows of Loneliness, a series of essays commissioned especially for this book lays out Vollmann's views on what photographs can and should say, how he chooses what to represent (beauty, suffering, compassion, love, desire, ideology), thoughts on photographic consensuality, and any number of technical descriptions. Particularly useful for Vollmann fans and scholars are the cross-references between these artistic and photographic projects and his books.

This collection brings together twelve of the finest short stories of prominent American feminist author Charlotte Perkins Gilman. "The Yellow Wallpaper," Gilman's best-known work, was first published in 1892 and represents an important examination of nineteenth-century attitudes toward women's physical and mental health. Written as a collection of journal entries by a woman whose physician husband has confined her to her bedroom, the story depicts the narrator's descent into psychosis as her confinement gradually erodes her sanity. This collection also includes the stories "The Giant Wistaria," "According to Solomon," "The Boys and the Butter," "Her Housekeeper," "Martha's Mother," "A Middle-Sized Artist," "An Offender," "When I Was a Witch," "The Cottagette," "Making a Living," and "Mr. Robert Grey Sr."

Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) was arguably Germany's most famous poet, philosopher, historian, and playwright. The Criminal from Lost Honour is written in the form of a crime report, and is notable as an early attempt at psychological analysis of the criminal Christian Wolf. In particular, Schiller delves into the impact of early experiences, rejections, and humiliations on the descent on the man from honest publican to criminal and murderer. But despite the psychological analysis, Schiller's racy fast-paced prose as he narrates how Wolf is catapulted from one turning point in his life to the next, draws the listener irresistably into the story and grips their attention right through to the last astonishing scene.

'By turns stomach-churning, tantalising and opulent – these stories confirm Vaught's baroque talents..'
    – Heidi James, author of The Sound Mirror.
In this dark and toothsome collection, Anna Vaught enters a strange world of apocryphal feasts and disturbing banquets. Famished explores the perils of selfish sensuality and trifle while child rearing, phantom sweetshop owners, the revolting use of sherbet in occult rituals, homicide by seaside rock, and the perversion of Thai Tapas. Once, that is, you've been bled dry from fluted cups by pretty incorporeals and learned about consuming pride in the hungriest of stately homes.
Famished: seventeen stories to whet your appetite and ruin your dinner.
