Sinopsis

Imagine a Florida beach with a luscious palm tree in the background.
Now, imagine a motor home parked beneath the palm tree.
The motor home is seafoam green.
"Gypsy Traveler" is written on the motor home in a "hippy font" (artist's choice of color).
In the forefront stands a woman with a slim figure.
She is holding hands with a tall, lanky man wearing a cowboy hat. This couple is facing the motor home. They are blacked out as if they were cut from black construction paper. Somewhere in the image, I would like the artist to place two red roses.
The placement of those roses is at the artist's discretion.

What do aliens, dying planets, ancient pyramids, quantum weirdness, gender politics and sandal design have in common?
They all find a place in this wildly entertaining exploration of the questions most of us think about but rarely say out loud.
From the baffling to the brilliant, the hilarious to the haunting, Random Curiosities takes you on a freewheeling ride through the strange chaos of human thought.
Broken down into essay style chapters on random ideas (that the author somehow manages to link!) relating to humanity and the world around us,
this isn’t a book with neat answers. It’s a celebration of the questions themselves.
Get ready to laugh, wince, wonder, and maybe—just maybe—make a little more sense of this absurd thing called life.

The wry humor of Ellis Parker Butler, who gave us the classic Pigs Is Pigs, takes us into his own married life where Marthy and Hiram live quietly in their Colorado town. They don't have trouble with anyone of their neighbors. Why should they, as they don't have any kids that could cause the neighbors trouble? And oh, luckily they don't have kids because how could Hiram otherwise afford to give his wife, Marthy a new silk dress? Really lucky. The neighbors kids are cute and all but ugh, they are much better off without kids and their expenses and sicknesses and trouble. Except that one boy, well, he's cool, Hiram wouldn't mind having him around and teaching him how to fish. Or maybe the neighbors youngest daughter, shes so nice. All of this superiority changes when they expect a child of their own and then the poor little thing is born. Funny, poignant and oh, so true!

Darkly hilarious, Shorter than the day is Veep meets Dr Strangelove, perfect for those looking for fast-paced political sci-fi satire about our own strange times.
End-of-days war between the US, China, and Europe is threatening. Migrant children are being turned into war robots; and people’s emotions are almost entirely controlled by their smart-watches. This is the world in which Adriana de Tocville accidentally becomes President of the United States. A committed anarcho-syndicalist, her views are radically at odds with the establishment. How can she negotiate weird cult leaders, murderous Generals, super-intelligent AI and her craving for donuts to stop humanity succumbing to extinction?

Ever feel like the whole world is conspiring against you?

Jonathon Fairfax can’t even get on the London Underground without bumping into someone he’s desperate to avoid – like Rachel, his first love, who demolished his heart eleven years ago. She tells him that her terrifying uncle (a man Jonathon knows only as ‘the murderer’) is about to be released from prison.

Does the murderer blame Jonathon for his time inside? Will he seek revenge?

To find out, Jonathon follows him – until the trail ends at a mysterious north London chicken shop, shrouded in sinister rumours. As Jonathon tries to untangle the truth, he gets drawn ever deeper into a web of conspiracy theorists, organised criminals and evil Etonians.

But who should Jonathon really be afraid of? The murderer on the loose or bumbling celebrity politician Teddy Robinson? The Russian mafia or the owner of a chain of chicken shops whose fries – if the dark rumours are true – may not be made of potato?

After all, they can’t all be out to get him … um, can they?

The Fairfax Redemption is the fourth book in the massively popular Jonathon Fairfax series, sure to be loved by fans of Douglas Adams, PG Wodehouse and Caimh McDonnell.

Like On Tyranny, but with cats, this is the ultimate guide to channeling feline wisdom in the face of authoritarian nonsense.   Cats, the original masters of stealth, sass, and strategic chaos, have been teaching us survival tactics for centuries—they just haven’t been this explicit about it. Until now.   Through humor, sharp insights, and unapologetic defiance, LESSONS FROM CATS FOR SURVIVING FASCISM lays out eleven essential cat-inspired strategies for resisting control and reclaiming power. From staying nimble and unpredictable to demanding what you need with the confidence of a hungry tabby, each chapter is packed with lessons that are as subversive as they are practical.   Whether you’re facing off against a system that thrives on control or just trying to make sense of a chaotic world, these lessons will arm you with the tools—and the attitude—you need to fight back. Cats don’t ask for permission, and neither should you.
