Sinopse

Theodore Roosevelt: An Autobiography presents a compelling narrative of one of America's most dynamic leaders, blending personal anecdotes with broader reflections on national identity and purpose. Written in a vigorous and engaging style, Roosevelt's autobiography is both a historical document and a rich literary memoir, embodying the spirit of the Progressive Era. The author skillfully interweaves his formative experiences, political philosophies, and adventurous exploits, illuminating the complexities of leadership and the evolution of American values during the early 20th century. Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) was not just the 26th President of the United States; he was a naturalist, a reformer, and a stalwart advocate for conservation and social justice. His diverse experiences, from his tumultuous youth marked by illness to his time as a Rough Rider and his groundbreaking presidency, shaped his worldview and drive for progress. Roosevelt's quest for a 'Square Deal' for all Americans is both a reflection of his personal convictions and a critique of societal injustices, making his perspective invaluable to understanding contemporary American politics. This autobiography is essential reading for anyone interested in American history, leadership, and the complexities of democracy. Roosevelt's eloquent prose not only entertains but also inspires readers to engage critically with the challenges of their own time. Over the course of the last half dozen years, China's supreme leader Xi Jinping has made extraordinary changes which have profound implications not only for the Chinese people but nations throughout the world. Given how swiftly and fundamentally China's relations with the rest of the world are changing under Xi's rule, it is imperative that we know what Xi Jinping Thought is, how it evolved, and why it is so important.

In The Political Thought of Xi Jinping, Steve Tsang and Olivia Cheung provide an authoritative overview of what "Xi Jinping Thought" is and is not and what it means for both China and the world. Xi, now effectively leader for life, has worked to ensure that "Xi Jinping Thought" becomes cemented as the new state ideology. Clearly inspired by the doctrine of "Mao Zedong Thought," which shaped the parameters of acceptable thinking for a quarter century, Xi wants his doctrine to define what he calls the "China Dream of national rejuvenation" and serve the pathway to its fulfillment by 2050. Drawing from original research of Xi's speeches, writings, and policies, Tsang and Cheung conceptualize Xi's vision independently from interpretations provided by the Chinese Communist Party or other sources. They further examine and explain how Xi seeks to transform this vision into reality.

The Roosevelt New Deal was a series of domestic programs and initiatives launched by President Franklin D. Roosevelt shortly after he assumed office in 1933. At the time, the United States faced one of the worst economic crises in its history, with unemployment rates exceeding 25%, banks failing, and businesses closing down. In response to this crisis, Roosevelt sought to implement a range of policies to address the immediate needs of the people and the underlying causes of the economic downturn.
The New Deal was based on three primary goals: relief, recovery, and reform. Relief measures aimed to provide immediate assistance to those most affected by the Great Depression, including the unemployed, farmers, and the elderly. Recovery efforts focused on restoring the economy and creating jobs. At the same time, reform measures sought to address the structural issues that had contributed to the crisis, such as the lack of financial regulation and social safety nets.
Some of the critical initiatives of the New Deal included the creation of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which employed young men to work on public projects such as road building and conservation; the establishment of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), which provided jobs and training to millions of unemployed workers; and the implementation of agricultural subsidies to support struggling farmers.
The New Deal also saw significant changes in the regulation of the financial sector, including the creation of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to insure bank deposits and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to regulate the stock market. Other reforms included establishing social security, which provided retirement benefits to elderly Americans, and the National Labor Relations Act, which protected workers' rights to unionize.

Dawn Cogger’s memoir, Womb to Tomb to Womb, provides fodder for life’s journey, a journey with unimaginable positive changes. Her story demonstrates how our life journey and its teachings are unique for each of us. Her life starts with sporadic Christian teachings, and contrary messages that belief in God is not acceptable, her behaviour often unacceptable. Her love of nature brings her solace and inspiration. She shares her hunger for prayer and a relationship with God. The bold, yet gentle book of life memories starts as a child, travails through her moments of desperation, to a seasoned woman, nurse, spiritual director and writer. It will touch your heart, inviting transformation.

Her memoir includes her struggle with the deaths of two young patients. She considered marriage to be a life-long commitment, and found it wasn’t. She went to therapy more than once. Dawn seeks and receives spiritual direction. She also walks the contemplative discernment process through the education of providing spiritual direction. As you witness her life, you’ll see her major losses turn into her gifts. Ageing and the virus COVID-19, at times seen as insurmountable challenges, bring about a grateful, inclusive, energized being. She shows the joys and woes of our lives have energy to foster: healing of a broken heart, a fulfilling relationship with God, and a life open to being true to our authentic selves.
