Sinopsis

"Binge Drinking" offers a comprehensive look into the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption, highlighting its impact on individual health and societal well-being. It addresses the misconception that binge drinking is merely a college issue, revealing it as a widespread public health concern affecting people of all ages. The book explores the physiological effects, detailing how repeated episodes of binge drinking can subtly yet significantly damage the brain, liver, and cardiovascular system. It also examines the psychological dimensions, including the links between binge drinking and mental health disorders like depression and anxiety. The book takes a bio-psycho-social approach, emphasizing the interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to binge drinking behaviors. Beginning with a clear definition of binge drinking based on scientific standards, the book progresses through the physiological consequences, effects on mental health, and culminates in a review of prevention and treatment strategies. This structure allows for a deep dive into the multifaceted aspects of binge drinking, supported by research from peer-reviewed scientific literature, including epidemiological studies and neuroimaging research.

Brought to you by Altrusian Grace Media and narrated by Matthew Schmitz.

The Twelve Keys of Basil Valentine is a widely reproduced alchemical book attributed to Basil Valentine. It was first published in 1599 by Johann Thölde who is likely the book's true author. It is presented as a sequence of alchemical operations encoded allegorically in words, to which images have been added. The first Basil Valentine book to discuss the keys is Ein kurtz summarischer Tractat, von dem grossen Stein der Uralten ("A Short Summary Tract: Of the great stone of the ancients"), 1599. The first part of the book is a discussion of general alchemical principles and advice about the philosopher's stone. The second half of Ein kurtz summarischer Tractat, under the subtitle "The Twelve Keys", contains twelve short chapters. Each chapter, or "key", is an allegorical description of one step in the process by which the philosopher's stone may be created. With each step, the symbolic names (Deckname, or code name) used to indicate the critical ingredients are changed, just as the ingredients themselves are transformed. The keys are written in such a fashion as to conceal as well as to illuminate: only a knowledgeable reader or alchemical adept was expected to correctly interpret the veiled language of the allegorical text and its related images. Alchemy.

A gently powerful memoir about deepening your relationship with your homeland.

For the first time in more than twenty-five years, Greg Sarris—whose novels are esteemed alongside those of Louise Erdrich and Stephen Graham Jones—presents a book about his own life. In Becoming Story he asks: What does it mean to be truly connected to the place you call home—to walk where innumerable generations of your ancestors have walked? And what does it mean when you dedicate your life to making that connection even deeper? Moving between his childhood and the present day, Sarris creates a kaleidoscopic narrative about the forces that shaped his early years and his eventual work as a tribal leader. He considers the deep past, historical traumas, and possible futures of his homeland. His acclaimed storytelling skills are in top form here, and he charts his journey in prose that is humorous, searching, and profound. Described as "jewellike" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Becoming Story is also a gently powerful guide in the art of belonging to the place where you live.

    Radical Cartography - How...

A thought-provoking exploration of how maps shape our understanding of the world
Cartographer and historian William Rankin argues that it's time to reimagine what a map can be and how it can be used. Maps are not neutral visualizations of facts. They are innately political, defining how the world is divided, what becomes visible and what stays hidden, and whose voices are heard. What matters isn't just the topics or the data, but how maps make arguments about how the world works. And the consequences are enormous. A map's visual argument can change how cities are designed and how rivers flow, how wars are fought and how land claims are settled, how children learn about race and how colonialism becomes a habit of mind. Maps don't just show us information—they help construct our world.Brimming with vibrant maps, including many "radical" maps created by Rankin himself and by other cutting-edge mapmakers, Radical Cartography exposes the consequences of how maps represent boundaries, layers, people, projections, color, scale, and time. Challenging the map as a tool of the status quo, Rankin empowers listeners to embrace three unexpected values for the future of cartography: uncertainty, multiplicity, and subjectivity. Changing the tools—changing the maps—can change the questions we ask, the answers we accept, and the world we build.
