From the author of Ahmed Aziz’s Epic Year comes another wryly humorous tween novel about finding belonging in an unexpected place. A must-read for fans of Hena Khan, Kelly Yang, and Karina Yan Glaser.
Samira knows this is going to be the worst summer ever. Her best friend, Kiera, ditched her for the cool girls. Her parents and older sister are taking a trip to India, so Sammy is staring down endless weeks spent with Imran, her little brother, and her Umma. To top it all off—literally!—her house gets TP’d.
The TP’ing upsets Imran, who is convinced that they’re being targeted because they’re the only brown family on the block. When Sammy attempts to solve the problem, she creates a bigger mess instead. But she also meets new girl Alice, who is determined to figure out who was behind the TP’ing.
Suddenly, Sammy’s “boring” summer is full of clue-finding hunts, garage band practices, and getting to know her neighbors like never before. But when Kiera starts stealing Alice away, Sammy must decide if she wants to stand up for herself. One thing is certain: This summer is either going to be the worst (or maybe the best) of Samira’s life.

Though it might be hard to believe, the Americans did not have a covert operations organization when they joined World War II, and like the British, it took them some time to realize it could be a powerful tool. As a result, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was not established until June 13, 1942, six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Nevertheless, during World War II, all the hard work in the United States led to the growth of the OSS into an organization with over 13,000 staff and 40 offices scattered across the world. Its purposes were initially similar to that of Britain’s Special Operations Executive, including espionage, sabotage, and intelligence assessments, but with time and experience, it expanded to include economic, psychological, and guerrilla warfare, as well as counter-intelligence work. And of course, it would all chart a path for the early days of America’s most famous intelligence agency, the CIA.
The agency has done some good things, and it has inarguably done some bad things. Naturally, people tend to remember the most controversial operations, from CIA-funded revolutions to the Bay of Pigs and domestic experiments such as the mysterious Project MK-Ultra. Many decisions were made, either by the agency or by those elected to give the agency direction, in the raw emotions of the Cold War, and this also colored many of the decisions. Regardless, well after Allen Dulles’ tenure as the CIA’s director, investigations uncovered the facts that the CIA did not merely operate overseas, but also conducted several operations against American citizens, which Dulles both knew about and approved.
This book looks at the operations that continue to fascinate, confuse, and disgust modern society, from the people who managed the operations to the results.

It's dinnertime at Oskar's house, and his parents have lots of luscious suggestions: chicken skewers? A peanut stew? Maybe he'd like a shrimp ragout?

But Oskar would prefer something off the menu—he wants to eat his brother!

Hélène Gaudy's tale is a charming read-aloud packed to the gills with wordplay that's perfect for bedtime.

"An extremely silly book that is reminiscent of Maurice Sendak … Oskar is a picky eater, but there's no way he could be so picky that he'd only want to eat his brother … right? Young readers will laugh in delight and some will commiserate with Oskar's lack of interest in food, but all will love the rollicking rhyme and the absurdity of the premise!"—Tildy Lutts, Belmont Books

A World of Beauty: Tales from Pavlysh contains 19 charming little tales about the beauty of the natural world, and how nature supports all living creatures.
A chicken hatches some duck eggs. A rowan tree welcomes some beautiful, crested birds to feed on its berries. A blade of grass slumbers through the winter and awakens to joyfully greet the spring. In some of the stories, people engage with this beauty. A child admires the magic beauty of a snowflake, “a six-pointed star, so beautiful and shiny, that a fairy-tale master might have cut it from a plate of silver”. A boy is woken at dawn by his father, and together they go to a field so they can listen to the song of a lark, “sprinkling the field with magic sounds”. A young girl breaks the thorns off an acacia, so that a butterfly will not prick itself. In other stories, animals help each other. A hedgehog shares its winter shelter with a grasshopper. A squirrel shares a pinecone with a woodpecker.
All the stories, beautifully narrated by Jilly Bond, reflect the poetic vision of nature that Vasyl Sukhomlynsky shared with students in his school in the Ukrainian village of Pavlysh.
The print and eBook editions of this audio book are beautifully illustrated by students from Ukraine and Belarus.
