Sinopse

Swami Bodhananda in his book “Ethics and Enlightenment” critically examines the role of ethics and spiritual discipline for enlightenment. Religious fundamentalism and cultural arrogance that spurn reason and commonsense give added force and justification for all kinds of social and sexual perversions in the name of religious freedom and cultural uniqueness.

Swami Bodhananda raises questions such as:  What is the truth? Is spiritual experience merely a flowering of uninhibited libidinal energy? Are society, rules of conduct, moral behaviour, rationality, relationships and social responsibilities, unnecessary and an unacceptable imposition on the spirit? If so, are all forms of discipline and authority based on suppressed libido and sexuality? And can one by free sexual expression remove those superimpositions and live eternally in the spirit? Is self-discipline and moral discrimination actually a hindrance to spiritual flowering?

With a detailed set of arguments based on Vedantic scriptures he critiques the tenets of New-age-ism and emphasizes the role of moral, physical and emotional discipline central to spiritual progress. Finally in the book, Swami Bodhananda concludes that - A spiritually-awakened person lives in the infinite Spirit, mindful of an endless parade of body-mind events!

    Operation Sea Lion Succeeds -...

The real Operation Sea Lion was fraught with logistical challenges, poor planning, and the formidable defenses of the British military. However, in this alternate history, key factors aligned to turn Hitler’s gamble into a shocking success. The fall of Britain was not inevitable, but a series of strategic shifts, political missteps, and military breakthroughs paved the way for an event that would alter the course of history forever.
One of the most significant changes was a decisive shift in Germany’s air strategy. Instead of squandering resources on bombing civilian targets, the Luftwaffe focused relentlessly on eliminating the Royal Air Force. A more coordinated assault on British radar stations, airfields, and aircraft production facilities crippled Britain’s ability to defend its skies. With the RAF severely weakened, the Germans gained air superiority far earlier than in reality, making an amphibious invasion far more feasible.
German naval strategy also played a critical role. In this timeline, the Kriegsmarine, instead of being vastly outmatched by the Royal Navy, benefited from increased coordination with the Luftwaffe and U-boat support. The Channel crossing was still risky, but a well-timed offensive, bolstered by deception tactics and a more aggressive submarine campaign, created an opening for German forces to land successfully on British shores.

Aion is one of the major works of C.G. Jung's later years.

The title comes from the Greek word for aeon or age and refers to the age of Christianity, for, in Aion, Jung is concerned with the collective psychic development that the Christian era represents. How did it come about when it did? What psychic change did it represent? In exploring these questions, Jung (1875-1961) draws upon Christian symbolism and, in particular, the figure of Christ as a case study in the archetype of the Self.

The book begins with an account of the important concepts of the ego, the shadow and the anima/animus (here referred to as the syzygy). Jung then continues with his exploration of the Self archetype as represented through Christian symbolism and the figure of Christ. In particular, a discussion and critique of the Christian view of evil is provided. The symbolism of the fish, which recurs as a symbol of both Christ and of the devil, is examined in detail and a wide range of alchemical, pagan and gnostic material is drawn upon. The final chapter of the book proposes a model for the structure of the Self.

Aion is one of the most important volumes of the Collected Works and complements The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious. Translated by R. F. C.Hull.

A startling discovery—that job market success after college is largely random—forces a reappraisal of education, opportunity, and the American dream.

As a gateway to economic opportunity, a college degree is viewed by many as America’s great equalizer. And it’s true: wealthier, more connected, and seemingly better-qualified students earn exactly the same pay as their less privileged peers. Yet, the reasons why may have little to do with bootstraps or self-improvement—it might just be dumb luck. That’s what sociologist Jessi Streib proposes in The Accidental Equalizer, a conclusion she reaches after interviewing dozens of hiring agents and job-seeking graduates.

Streib finds that luck shapes the hiring process from start to finish in a way that limits class privilege in the job market. Employers hide information about how to get ahead and force students to guess which jobs pay the most and how best to obtain them. Without clear routes to success, graduates from all class backgrounds face the same odds at high pay. The Accidental Equalizer is a frank appraisal of how this “luckocracy” works and its implications for the future of higher education and the middle class. Although this system is far from eliminating American inequality, Streib shows that it may just be the best opportunity structure we have—for better and for worse.

Part catharsis, part diagnosis, this divinely wry collection from New Yorker and McSweeney's satirist Eli Grober will strike a chord with those who are dismayed by the chaos of our times. None of it will help—but a few good laughs won't hurt. Probably.

There's a lot going on, all the time. It may feel overwhelming. Don't worry. It will end. This Won't Help is here for you in the meantime—with 100 short, sharp, satirical essays that skewer a world raging with inaction, while maximizing the profits of self-destruction. As if that would help!

Eli Grober's biting, Swiftian prose spares no one—not the megalomaniacal billionaire fleeing Earth for a better life on unlivable Mars, not an extremely online family living completely off-grid, not even a fossil-fuel lobbyist insisting we all stop using straws. (Eli does spare a kind thought for the supremely intelligent listeners with the good sense to buy this book.) Maybe, just maybe, descending through the inferno of our environmental, economic, and political landscape will help us find real solutions to the hypocrisy and dysfunction that surrounds us. But probably not.
