There is a lot one can learn from the matured butterflies among us. You know the ones who survived the perilous larva stage without being eaten alive and completed the metamorphosis bruised but stronger for the experience. There is profound beauty in the potential wisdom and inspiration available from those matured butterflies willing to share the lessons acquired on their journey. Othello is a tragedy by William Shakespeare based on the short story "Moor of Venice" by Cinthio, believed to have been written in approximately 1603. The work revolves around four central characters: Othello, his wife Desdemona, his lieutenant Cassio, and his trusted advisor Iago. Attesting to its enduring popularity, the play appeared in 7 editions between 1622 and 1705. Because of its varied themes — racism, love, jealousy and betrayal — it remains relevant to the present day and is often performed in professional and community theatres alike. The play has also been the basis for numerous operatic, film and literary adaptations. Othello, suspicious and jealous military general, listened to a malicious gossip from his secret hater Iago and now believes that his beautiful wife Desdemona is unfaithful. This collection explores the creative space of poetry as a means to unravel feelings evoked by the violence of war or by everyday traumatic events. One may come to terms with uncomfortable, including unspeakable, feelings by describing them with imagery from nature and one’s immediate environment. By participating in grieving, the self can better face any lingering effects of trauma. In this creative space, dramatic speakers retell stories and give vent to contradictory feelings through silences and free play.
